Just in case anyone believes that there is any ambiguity in Governor Carcieri’s response to Guy Dufault’s boast that “[he] can bring Carcieri down” because he’s “got stuff”, here is what the governor had to say at today’s press conference…
I call on the responsible parties, starting with Mr. Dufault, to retract the statements. They are totally false.Source: WHJJ news coverage.
UPDATE:
The Projo digital bulletin has links to Dufault's original broadcast and Governor Carcieri's press conference.
The democrats in this state have sunk to a new low. I don't consider myself a Republican or Democrat. I vote for who I feel will do the job. However, it's time we clean house and sweep the democrats out of office. They have become a self serving incestuous bunch of thugs.
I doubt the airing of Dufault's latest mud slinging was actually a mistake. Aren't advertisements and such programs taped? If so, didn't anyone preview the footage before it aired. This is SOP for all except actual LIVE shows. I don't believe this was a LIVE show.
Dufault owes Governor Carcieri more than an apology! Dufault needs to clean the Governor's shoes with his own spit for the next 30 years or so.
How dare he!!!!
Posted by: Molly at November 7, 2005 5:31 PMMolly, if it was just the smear against Carcieri on the tape, I might think it was intentional.
But the fact that the tape also contains unflattering remarks against Fogarty makes me think it really was an accident. Now, if Fogarty takes Dufault's preferred positions, he's going to lose a bunch of votes from people who believe he's a union puppet.
Posted by: Andrew at November 7, 2005 6:11 PMGuy Dufault has proven himself to be a horrible little weasel beyond redemption.
The thing that is most disturbing to me about the tape is the sick, underhanded quality of the whole conversation. Another moment that makes me shake with disgust is when Dufault says, "he wants me to get the unions to back him (Fogarty)" or something to that effect. You mean to tell me this is truly the ring leader for "the unions" of Rhode Island? Is Guy on a complete ego trip, or are the unions really that easily led around like a bunch of blind sheep by this slimier than slimy guy? Either option is truly scary, but the latter is scary in a Jim Jones-the-unions-all-drink-Dufault's-Koolaid-egad! sort of way.
What are these guys souped upon that they actually believe they are running things? Caffeine? Cocaine? Alcohol? Scary. Or, even more scary, are they actually running things?

Posted by: --- at November 7, 2005 10:59 PMThis incident makes me wonder now if we'll see other Democratic candidates for governor surface. The track had seemingly been cleared for Fogarty, but if the (probably soon to be deposed) kingmaker has no faith in Charlie, the casino and labor interests will probably hold their money for awhile to see how this all shakes out.
