Arlene Violet Radio Show
Just a quick note that I will be on the Arlene Violet radio show - WHJJ, 920 AM - next Monday, March 27, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
The subject will be public education, with a focus on some of my recent postings:
The Moral Imperative for School Choice: The Complete Posting
No Educational Bureaucrat Left Behind
Andrew has also written some related postings, which I expect will come up as well:

Good luck on Monday!
School choice within public schools is a bit like having one brand of cars - Yugos - and having a choice of Yugo dealerships among which to purchase your Yugo and/or have it serviced. Some Yugo dealers will be better than others, but the underlying product will still be inferior.
That said, I guess we have to start somewhere, particularly in this teacher-union dominated province known as Rhode Island.
To be competitive in this global economy American children will require a world-class education. This will never occur in "public schools" so long as the NEA / AFT are allowed to darken the premises. Their industrial-model of protecting incompetent and unmotivated workers, uniform pay (other than for seniority) and perpetuation of the mediocrity that comes with unionized workplaces makes the teachers unions the most regressive and economically harmful forces in the United States today.
Competition afforded by "private" schools - and access to their services by ALL parents - will shrink the unionized "public schools" into either vast improvement or irrelevance - and either of those outcomes would serve our children well.
