Exit Poll Rumors Trickling Out Showing Whitehouse With The Lead
I jumped the gun just a bit with my previous post. Both The New Republic and National Review Online have obtained a first round of exit polls results…
- New Republic source 1, Whitehouse 55.4%, Chafee 44.6%
- New Republic source 2 and probably National Review source 1, Whitehouse 53%, Chafee 46%
Do we all remember during the primary when the scuttle was that if we voted for Laffey, then Whitehouse would win for sure. But if we voted for Chafee, he would win. It makes me think that this train of thought was started in the Whitehouse camp.
Posted by: WJF at November 7, 2006 7:43 PMThese numbers are probably based on the 1:00 and 5:00 exit polls. Remember that in 2004 they were skewed way Democrat, as later events that night demonstrated.
If it's as close as the National Review numbers suggest, we may have a long night.
On the Laffey-Whitehouse speculation, assuming Whitehouse wins, there will be plenty of time for playing the "what-if" game in the days ahead.
My feeling all along was that a Laffey primary win would guarantee a Whitehouse win in the general, whereas Linc would have a better chance to hold the seat.
I haven't seen anything so far to shake that general view, whether Linc wins or not.
