Out of Our Blog
Upon the first mention of the notion that I'm about to put forward, Mac provided the humorous, self-deflating title of "Anchor Reclining." The basic idea is that the contributors to Anchor Rising including commenters ought to do more than transform pixels into arguments. We ought to meet. Converse. And we should probably do some drinking, as well.
The wall against which we keep bouncing is that we, blog authors, having some minor attributes equatable (brace yourselves) to geekiness, aren't exactly sure how to go about such an event. So, it has fallen to me to ask you (yous and y'all): If we were to host an informal get-together meaning that attendees pay their own way perhaps at a local bar, maybe with hors d'oeuvres where and when would you be most interested in attending?
With "where," I'll take the gamut from specific locations to general regions. With "when," I'll take specific dates or (preferably) days of the week.
If you aren't inclined to be so forward as to present your suggestions as comments, please feel free to email me.
WARNING:
Depending on response, I may perpetually boost this post to the top o' the blog.
Sounds like a hoot! Though I'm kind of new to the blog I've had some very interesting cyber-conversations so far. Mid-week sounds good, preferably neutral territory with plenty of security, just in case.
Posted by: Michael at July 7, 2007 8:26 PMNo security necessary; I'll bind troublemakers in obscure literary references.
Seriously, though, the location request is key. We're looking for places or, at the very least, cities/towns that would be most conducive to attendance.

Posted by: Michael at July 7, 2007 8:59 PMHow about Freddy's? After work of course...
Posted by: jd at July 7, 2007 10:11 PMHow about Idaho? ;-)
Posted by: Pat at July 7, 2007 10:39 PMI'm in 100%. Though I'm not old enough for a drink of the intoxicating variety, a get-together of motivated RI cons sounds first rate. I can only do nights, weekends or Wednesdays though, and preferably somewhere near Providence. Keep us posted!
Posted by: Nick C at July 8, 2007 2:12 AMHow about L'Atitude in Pawtuxet?
We can even invite Pat to be throw random, wimpy, ad hominem attacks from across the room.
Posted by: Greg at July 8, 2007 11:29 AMWe could meet at a nice "progressive" bar in Providence, but beer is out 'cause all they serve is whine...er, wine.
Posted by: oz at July 8, 2007 1:34 PMAcross the room? And you thought you knew me so well
Posted by: Pat at July 8, 2007 6:33 PMIt's tempting but scary. I'm "old" and cantankerous. The sight of me might make your hair stand on end. Yet,,,I'd like to commune with some kindred spirits.....
ps. I won't go to any damned "progressive" ie. full of liberal Constitution mucker arounders bar. (like I'd know the difference anyways since I don't go to bars.)
Please keep posted here.
Posted by: free at July 8, 2007 11:14 PMFederal Hill is always a good choice. I'm especially fond of Angelo's (they do have a bar for those interested in adult beverages).
On the other side of the bay, the Brick Alley Pub in Newport is pretty nice, too .. but you'd have to work around all those tourist types.
If you really want to slum it, the Bickford's on Jefferson Blvd. is always available ... and they have a bar, too. ;)
PS If you go to the Hill, if you need any protection, I know this guy named Vinny...
Posted by: Will at July 9, 2007 1:34 AMIt would seem Will's recommendation for Bickford's makes sense. It is central to the state and right off the highway. Regardless of where, I will be there, schedule permitting.
Posted by: WJF at July 9, 2007 4:19 PMHi!
Posted by: Scott Bill Hirst at July 10, 2007 12:00 PMBickford's seems the most practical.Easy access off Route#95,Jefferson Boulevard, in Warwick and centrally located at least for the western part of Rhode Island. The Rhode Island Republican Assembly meets there. In fact they are having a meeting thursday evening. Will can inform you.
Hooters in Warwick enters my mind.Very cute, young waitresses. But that wouldn't work.Bickford's can provide you with a room but I think those seriously interested in going and plan to show up so a good anticipated count can be made.
As far as Angelo's on Federal Hill.I went there yesterday and they were closed for vacation.Parking is VERY TIGHT there but i enjoy the food!
At this point if it is at Bickford's and I don't have a conflict I will probably come.I prefere to avoid downtown Providence because of parking.
Off the subject: Norm Brunelle a former member of the Hopkinton Town Council has died.He was elected at different times as both a Cool Moose and Republican to the Hopkinton,R.I.,Town Council. In my first Town Council term from 1996-98 I was the lone Republican serving with two Cool Moose(Brunelle and Susan Schaffer) and two Democrats (Mal Grant and Linda DiOrio),.
Regards,
Scott
