Cranston Mayoral Update

Carroll Andrew Morse

According to a Matt Jerzyk post over at RI Future, apparently based on a statement coming from the Councilwoman herself, Paula McFarland is out as a potential Democratic candidate for Mayor of Cranston. Mr. Jerzyk speculates that this clears the way for state Representative Charlene Lima to seek the Democratic Mayoral endorsement.

The Projo's weekly Political Scene column still mentions Councilwoman McFarland as a possibility (I guess it really is a weekly column, pretty obviously filed sometime last Friday, before the RI Future post on Councilwoman McFarland appeared on Saturday) as well as Rep. Lima, Daniel Beardsley of the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns, and former Cranston City Council Members Cindy Fogarty and Mario Carlino.

Strangely, Political Scene refers to declared Republican candidate Allan Fung only as someone who has "expressed interest" in running for Mayor, lumping Cranston's only formally announced candidate in with the undecideds.

Comments

Although I am quite certain that Charlene "The Hair" Lima would still face a Democrat primary with 1 or 2 other individuals, I would absolutely look forward to the prospect of Allan making her look like a complete idiot (not too tough) in a debate setting.

By the way, Allan is having a big fundraiser next Monday at the Cranston Country Club.

Accuracy is less important than making everyone equal ...

Allan Fung
Allan is a Lobbyist for Met-Life Home and Auto
I own 6 rental properties in south county,(I have never put in a claim) last year (2007) Met-Life canceled all
six contracts (after over 30 years)
I called Mr Fung (no responce)

I DO NO VOTE, OR LIVE IN CRANSTON, IF WE GET FUNG OUT OF THE STATE HOUSE, IT WILL GOOD FOR RHODE ISLAND, not good for the Met-Life Home and Auto policy holders in Cranston

Hey Jerry, you like paying taxes? If not, then it's much more to our benefit to get Lima out of the state house. She's one of the biggest reasons our state is in the mess it is. Let's get her to run for Mayor to at least give up her State House seat and then let Fung assist her in making a fool of herself.

I'm sure that your insurance was not canceled on a whim. That being said, I happen to have MetLife myself, and have never once had a problem. Regardless, I don't see what any of that would have to do with Allan. He's MetLife's legal counsel, not an insurance salesman.

Jerry, did you know that one of the main risk determinants for insurance companies re: home and auto policies is the credit profile of the insured?

I understand that insurance companies are quick to cancel policies of those whose credit profile drops below acceptable levels into the high risk category.

The I'll run for your seat if you run for Mayor deal illustrates the formidible advantage Paula McFarland has in intellectual prowess over Charlene Lima (which puts Lima's IQ at about a 19).

Lima gives up a leadership position so she can run for mayor on her "I'll call the shots" platform - and gets decimated - probably in the primary. Paula spends 5 weeks out of the summer at Winnapausaukee and gets 80% of the vote for Charleen's old house seat.

Brilliant!

George,

For exactly the reasons you just outlined, I'm skeptical about Lima actually running.

Interestingly, Dem City Committee chair Mike Sepe has a letter in today's West Bay promoting the merits of primaries - without any mention of who the competitors might be.

I still think the fact that she's not so bright is what might ultimately draw Lima into the race.

Paula McFarland posted a comment on kmareka.com http://kmareka.com/?p=1866#comments last night stating she won't be running for Lima's house seat and she's more inclined to run for School Committee as originally planned. She also mentioned that Lima and Rep. Peter Palumbo did not attend Sunday nights Dem City Committee meeting - which could be an indication they are not running. That leaves three, Fogarty, Carlino and Beardsly. Fogarty has already said she would not run without the City Committee endorsement. (Did Mike Sepe back himself into a corner when he said it was "the year of the woman" a few weeks ago?) To be continued....
