Mayor Menard's Strange Accusation
Twenty minutes ago on the John DePetro Show, Mayor Susan Menard repeated her belief that
This would not happen in South County or Barrington or East Greenwich."
"This" refers to the on-again off-again closure for lack of funding of the World War II Memorial Park in Woonsocket. It is difficult to reconcile her charge of "discrimination" by the state against the City of Woonsocket with the revenue section of the city's budget; more specifically, that 75% supplied by the State of Rhode Island.
If discrimination were the goal, wouldn't it have been far more effective, not to mention public relations savvy, for the state to have kept the multimillions in aid all these years for boring, invisible stuff like schools and municipal operations and popped up in the bright spotlight at just the right moment with $200,000 for Social Ocean?
Wasn't this political whore supposed to be resigning in disgrace LAST month?
Wasn't this political whore the one who bugged her own office?
Wasn't this political whore the one who stole a speech from Alaska's Lt. Gov?
Wasn't this political whore the one who illegally leased motorcycles from her son-in-law?
So when she talks about 'discrimination' maybe she should be talking about how her mismanagement of her city has discriminated against the good taxpayers of her city and of the state that continues to prop up the city?
Only in Rhode Island could someone with this thick a layer of scum on her continue to serve in public office. In real states she would have been dragged from office by an angry mob.

Posted by: rhody at July 23, 2008 1:12 PMShe's allowed to get away with this stuff because she's under the protection of the Democratic good 'ol boys, who make sure she never has to hike taxes (unlike other mayors who are put in that position by state aid cuts), which wins her the undying loyalty of the armies of seniors in high-rises who keep re-electing her ad nauseam.
She's also under the protection of Woonsocket talk radio and her henchman John Dionne.
I won't get into the personal scuttlebutt here (which I always tried to dismiss as too juicy to possibly be true), but if you happen to talk to the right Woonsocket cops...
Knew it wouldn't be long until Rhody chimed in with the standard blather and inuendo. Your act is as old as Susie's - go away and get over whatever axe you have to grind w/ John Dionne.
Posted by: The Chorus at July 23, 2008 1:59 PMYes, but on the brighter side, if Woonsocket were a larger city like Providence or Warwick, the feds would have already invaded City Hall and Menard would be wearing an orange jumpsuit.
So, maybe Menard should just be glad she's in Woonsocket.
Posted by: Anthony at July 24, 2008 10:29 AMThank you, Chorus (or the talented and esteemed Mr. Dionne himself), for acting on an American principle. Even the Sue Menards of this nation are entitled to a valid defense.
Posted by: rhody at July 24, 2008 11:37 AMRhody....
(a) I'm not John Dionne. (b) My post did nothing to defend Susan Menard. If you want to start a thread about trashing John, go ahead. Once again, you take a story about Susie Q and tangentally try to make it about John Dionne - he has nothing to do with this. I'm surprised that he give him so much credit - have you listened to his show? If so, you are one of a few. Time to move on....
Posted by: The Chorus at July 24, 2008 12:23 PMI used to work in Woonsocket, so there wasn't much avoiding him. Between his cruising around to police calls in the city SUV like Alexander Haig after Reagan was shot, maneuvering to get his son on the police force, passing himself off as other people on The Call's comments page, and in an earlier time, acting as Marquette Credit Union's enforcer...
