How about we don't ask why and we just rejoice in the fact that there isn't a bailout? If we're very very lucky Bush's "Operation: Save my buddies fortunes" will go down in a giant fireball.

There is a legitimate debate on whether the bailout is a good thing or nor. There are both pros and cons, costs and benefits, intelligent reasons on both sides.

And also, there is 'politicizing' of the issue and debate in both parties. That's what they do - use current events to their political advantage. It isn't a tool used by one party asnd not the other. I'm sure there are specific politicians who take the high road, but they are not based on political affiliation.

For our good friend Senator Reed- a member of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions AND a member of the bailout negotiating team- it's CLEARLY more important that he attend tonight's Presidential debate in Mississippi.

Not exactly, it was Henry Paulson's plan. Paulson tried to convince everyone that it's an emergency and that his plan needed to be implemented immediately. Thank God there are enough Republicans that think otherwise. As for the Democrats, they won't take the lead on this and have no-one but themselves to blame when the whole thing blows up in their face. They would rather pork up a bad bill than do what's right for all concerned. What a country, bail out Wall Street with taxpayer money and then pay it back with taxpayer money by helping people keep houses (that they themselves admit) they shouldn't have bought to begin with. Oh and while we're at it let's take care of that nasty credit card debt as well.

If you read this article in the London Times you'll see that 5 British banks alone have plans to claim at least 1/4 of the $700 billion dollar bailout, and from what I heard on the BBC World News, not al of it is debt incurred in the US, but debt from their wn country: http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/banking_and_finance/article4828413.ece

This is lunacy, and congress should say no to any bailout. The democrats and the Bush admin are trying to sell us out for once and for all.

The bailout is also encouraged by the leftist's guru, George Soros, who owns more than 65 million dollars investments in Halliburton.
