Police officers deserve to be well paid, but this is astonishing:
Nearly one in 10 Massachusetts State Police officers made more than the governor last year, with 225 officers topping the $140,535 annual salary of the state's chief executive.Four of the 2,338 state troopers were paid more than $200,000, and 123 others were paid more than $150,000, the salary of the governor's Cabinet secretaries, according to payroll information obtained by the Globe under the state public records law.
A sizable chunk of that amount, it bears noting, was earned standing around construction sites, and the totals do not include sums paid by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and the Massachusetts Port Authority.

Posted by: pitcher at December 12, 2008 10:27 AMThe Herald has a "you paid for it" section that breaks down a sortable list of state and Boston employees. Interesting to me is that the top 20 earners in Mass (all 300k+) were UMASS Deans, chancellors, and directors....and that the top 25 Boston earners were cops (200k+) when overtime was included.The Mayor didn't crack the top 100, incidentally.
Posted by: JP at December 12, 2008 11:01 AMThat provides one helluva goosing to the pension when it's calculated on the highest consecutive 3-5 years' earnings (assuming that the MA pension scam works like RI).
Geez, I wonder how their TAX FREE "disability" pension amounts are calculated?
No wonder they have ticket quotas to keep the money rolling in!
