RI Tea Party founder Colleen Conley capped off the East Providence GOP's Thursday night fundraiser with a message that GOP politicians should certainly heed:
What was the message? That if you're a zebra and see Colleen coming, run for your life? :)
Just kidding.
Posted by: Patrick at November 9, 2009 6:11 PMIs that "native dress" in East Providence?
No one has ever seen Colleen and a zebra at the same time.
Posted by: Warrington Faust at November 9, 2009 6:19 PMThat's Tiger, boys, not Zebra. Get out of mommy's basement and go shopping at Saks some time.
Posted by: MadMom at November 9, 2009 11:13 PMI dunno, last time I checked, tigers were orange and black, and zebras were white and black.
As for Sak's, I live in Rhode Island, the state of Marshall's and Saver's.
We kid because we care. Keep it up, Colleen!!
Posted by: Patrick at November 10, 2009 7:28 AMExcellent, Patrick. More people should care. I look forward to seeing you at the next rally. I'll be the one dressed as Catwoman.
Posted by: MadMom at November 10, 2009 8:33 AMI think it's a rare Bengal tiger, with spotted owl trim...
Posted by: Will at November 10, 2009 11:38 AMI like the outfit. But I was much more impressed, and moved, by the message.
Our elected officials are so Obamatized, you never hear them talk about freedom.
Watch Obama when he has to talk about the troops, he'll always say they keep us safe. I've never heard him say they protect our freedom.
Freedom is under attack from all sides. It's nice to know the liberty movement has a sharp and fierce tigress among its leaders.
Posted by: George at November 10, 2009 11:52 AMThat was the most vapid speech I have heard this year. They want "freedom" and to be "free from burdens". Great. Very clear policy prescriptions there.
Posted by: Pragmatist at November 10, 2009 12:57 PMThis woman could be the author of \"The Ego Driven Life.\" She will do more to ensure Democrats maintain their strangle hold on government than even Bill Lynch. She is the first to attack conservatives who don\'t march in lock-step with her highness. She will be the last to get out and actually work for a real candidate. Watch her and her ilk, yes Justin you, support some ultra conservative in race after race that passes her litmus test as some sort of third part great white (supremacist) hope, then watch the Democrats cruise to 43% victory after victory. Results - more of the same thanks to this very damaging Ego queen. Its a shame really, but why we are in the mess we are in and will continue to be \"as far as the ego-driven eye can see.\"
Posted by: Tom Poston at November 10, 2009 1:15 PMLiberals never fail to reveal whom they fear the most; as evidenced by the nastiness toward Colleen that follow my compliments.
Anyone who thinks Mike Cappelli is over the top with his description of liberals: just look at the 20 consecutive posts by the idiot Tom Poston.
Posted by: George at November 10, 2009 2:07 PMI wonder what the Tea Party opinion on prostitution is? How about homosexual civil unions? Legalized narcotics?
Against a creeping government intrusion on our lives? That sounds about right, I'm all about that. I donate to the ACLU when I want those things.
Safer neighborhoods? I dig that, but my neighborhood in Pawtucket is safer than it has been in forty years. I would let my (hypothetical) kids out from dawn-till-dusk here, and anyone that won't has seen too much 'Where's Caylee' and not enough 'RI State Police Crime Statistics'.
The problem I have with the Tea Party is that I don't think they are what they think they are. Maybe I haven't seen anything but froth-at-the-mouth anger from them. We need solutions right now, not angst. This woman sounds reasonable, I would be willing to sit one-on-one with her and hear her ideas out, but what I see at the rallies, signs that say "No Taxes!", that's a little extreme, and not at all productive. The Tea Party needs to endorse some actual tangible solutions to be taken seriously.
I highly suggest they draft some legislation and submit it to their representatives in the upcoming session, maybe they'll get some purchase.
Posted by: mangeek at November 11, 2009 12:28 AMMangeek,
Have you been to a tea party at the RI State House? If you have then you should know that we always feature speakers who address specific policy issues, and come out both AGAINST certain bills that the legislature proposes and FOR alternative solutions. The RI Tea Party was out in front of perpetual contracts and binding arbitration and worked extensively with other reform groups to prevent both of these bills from being passed by the GA. And guess what? The GA has refused to pass either bill because we have made the disastrous effects of them known to the people, with the help of other groups, including this blog.
But let's make one thing clear: We are not policy wonks; we are engaged citizens. We work with, and utilize the expertise and resources of other organizations to formulate a combined strategy to advocate for small government. What we represent is the voice of the people (not the unions or other special interests), something which has been sadly lacking in RI for a long time.
Posted by: MadMom at November 11, 2009 10:22 AMMadMom, I'm still waiting to see you in that cat suit! :-)
Posted by: bobc at November 11, 2009 2:35 PMYes the Government has put the chains on us but we the people gave them the chains. Who will save us the say nothing do nothing gop? No. We the people will save us We need thier support not the other way around. Maybe there is someone in the gop or a democrat or an Independent or a libertarian or a moderate. We dont care we just want the right person for the job and we will find out if they will be able to retain the trust of the electorate to obtain and hold office as an elected official. So I must tell you again it will be we the people not we the tea party
