Over at RI Future, they have a post up advertising a fundraiser for Rhode Island First District Congressman Patrick Kennedy. In the middle of the list of hosts, an interesting name appears…
…Maria Montanaro, Dianne Harrington, Tim DelGiudice, Jim Harrington, Christine Ferguson, Gregory Mercurio, Bill Fischer, Frank McMahon, Terry Fracassa…Christine Ferguson, you may recall, was also the name of the former Rhode Island Human Services Director who ran in the 2002 Republican primary for the First District Congressional seat, losing to Dave Rogers, who eventually lost to Rep. Kennedy.
Do any Anchor Rising readers in-the-know about the doings of former Republicans candidates happen to know if this is perhaps just an odd coincidence? Or maybe the fundraising host is a relative of the candidate? Or is this yet another example of a "moderate" Rhode Island Republican eager to support a Democratic agenda?
Or is it the case of someone recognizing past mistakes and seeking to rectify them? When did people become frozen in positions? Speculation is cheap, but if you have nothing of substance to say, just throw out innuendo like raw meat to a hungry pack.

OTL, could you do us a favor. Would you please give us an example of what you consider to be something "of substance". Because, I don't believe we've seen it from you yet.
I'm looking forward to it.
Posted by: George at November 24, 2009 11:35 PMI know Christine. She's a very left wing Republican, although I'm not sure she's still a Republican. She was a RINO before the term became popular. I seem to recall that she had moved to Massachusetts after the election (she finished 3rd in the three way primary). Very nice lady, but definitely a lefty. OTL would probably love her.

I consider it quite substantial that 47,000,000 Americans lack health insurance and the Republicans do their best to stifle reform. It is quite substantial that the poorest families in Rhode Island pay a higher percentage of taxes than the wealthiest. It's substantial that certain morons can't see or don't care about these things.
What's substantial to you beyond stuffing your pockets?

Posted by: OldTimeLefty at November 25, 2009 8:47 AMOTL is never one to disappoint with his sophomoric platitudes. Such a simpleton - call it reform, and it must good.
47,000,000 uninsured - but don't mention how many can afford it but just make a calculated decision to go without it.
The poorest families pay a higher percentage of taxes than the wealthiest - but when you count in the multitude of free welfare benefits they receive it shows an entirely different picture.
OTL thinks we're all ignorant peasants like him.

Hi!
I cannot say I know Christine but remember her. While she was involved in the Almond adminstration and ran for Congress, I don't think she won the endorsement of the state committee or did she? Ms. Ferguson to my recollection did not really have much of staying power at least not in state wide GOP circles.
I have been an active Republican for years and seen people come and go that have run for public office including high profile ones.
The Republicans need to reflect on self defeating actions not only Democrats or other individuals such as Chafee or the Moderate Party. For example, I am concerned about rumors that the chair of the platform committee did not really allow input from other committee members on the drafting of the upcoming GOP platform.
Regards,
Scott
