As the usual and unusual suspects emerge out of the woodwork, we can be sure that we're going to see and hear some things that should induce a chuckle amongst the politically astute. And there's no better example than now-Former RI Democratic Party chair Bill Lynch:
The partisan politics of Washington are no longer providing solutions for the taxpayers of Rhode Island. I share the sentiments of voters who are angry and upset with the divisive debate that has ground Washington to a halt.He just can't be serious, can he? As the ProJo article reminds, this is the same guy who told 8th graders, ""The Democrats are the good guys and the Republicans are the bad guys and that's all you have to remember.'' Now he says he was just kidding. To quote Noah in Bill Cosby's famous skit, "Riiiiiight...."I want Rhode Island families to know I will not participate in the rhetoric that has left all of us discouraged and disillusioned these past few years...I believe the vast majority of Rhode Islanders want the Republicans and Democrats who represent them to move to the center.
It is time to stop the bitter debate driven by the extreme left and right. We need to come together and govern from the middle in a manner that makes sense for working families here in Rhode Island....I admit to a growing sense of frustration and disappointment with the lack of civility and progress in Washington that has left the American people out in the cold...Washington needs leaders who are dedicated to producing a new way forward and I plan on being a part of that process.
I almost choked when I read that little gem in Projo. He'd sure fit right in with the rest of the lying, unaccountable, self-interested crooks who represent us in Congress and the Obama administration. It takes a very special personality to be able to consistently spew such nonsense without flinching. So what is it: Does he really think we are that stupid or does he truly believe his own bull-dokey?
Posted by: MadMom at February 14, 2010 12:09 PMI would assume the Cicilline campaign will take the hundreds of poisonously partisan comments of Bill Lynch and feature them in commercials with the theme being - "Will adding more poison in Washington help out Rhode Island?"
Now is the time for all us politically astute folks to be educating our friends and family on how to vote in party primaries. Also REALLY important to impress upon people that voting in either the Republican or Democratic party primaries does not impact ones ability to vote for anyone they want to in the general election. That is the great misconception the average Joe voter has. Many think if they vote in a party primary they are stuck voting for that party in the general election. NOT TRUE!! Time to educate and inspire the unwashed masses to involve themselves in this years Democratic party primary.
Can has a major impact on the outcome.
So sayeth the scion of the Lynch Mob.
Posted by: Ragin' Rhode Islander at February 14, 2010 12:53 PMBoth Bill Lynch,a vicious partisan garbagemouth, and David Cicilline,a corrupt, rude, miserable little creature will help John Loughlin's campaign by the time they get done tearing each other up.
The other Dems in the race can't match the meeting of political demons those first two represent.
Imagine being represented in Congress by Ralph Mollis.I'd sooner drink liquified snot.
That's why I love reading and listening to you Joe, you have a way with words, and have no trouble telling us like it is.
I am supporting John Loughlin. That being said, I could certainly live with Jon Brien. The rest of the bunch are nothing more than dangerous political hacks. They are the ones who have brought this state to it's knees. I think the voting public is starting to get it, but sinners can convert, but stupid is forever. The jury is certainly still out.
Posted by: kathy at February 14, 2010 1:40 PMWe need a fresh face. No Lynch. No Brien. No Mollis. I don't even care which party produces said fresh face.
Posted by: rhody at February 14, 2010 1:47 PMWhat about Terry? Can't leave Paiva-Weed out of this can we?
I'd love to see all three of them go at it..
If District One elects any of these charlatans, then the state deserves what they get...
The Lynch Brothers are key players in the betrayal of ALL RI Taxpayers.
They BOTH have covered for the corruption on Smith Hill and BOTH deserve top be publicly vilified!
"We get the Government We Deserve!"
Note Rhody's comment:no Lynch,Brien,Mollis-aha,but Cicilline is ok,eh?I guess rhody lives someplace other than Providence.
Posted by: joe bernstein at February 14, 2010 3:36 PMSuch nonsense by the party chair. A friend pointed out that Bill Lynch has spent most of his tenure hiding, emerging on occasion solely to issue highly partisan, angry and rarely accurate press releases.
As for "governing from the middle", judging by the mammoth increase in spending, Washington took a sharp turn to the left about a year ago. So is the party chair stating that, if elected, he will govern from the middle by embracing Republicanism and cutting spending so as to balance things out? If so, is that a goal he plans to outline in detail at Drinking Liberally and other left-leaning forums?
Posted by: Monique at February 14, 2010 6:41 PMThey're already touting Jerzyk at RIF for the new Dem party chair. That oughta set off a civil war.
Posted by: joe bernstein at February 14, 2010 8:15 PMJerzyk as chair would be the best thing that's happened to the state party in a long time, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for that. I don't think Bill Lynch would've left the post without ensuring the good 'ol boys stay in control. In which case I stay indie.
Posted by: rhody at February 14, 2010 9:14 PMWell,if Jerzyk DID get the job, there would be no ambiguity about where the Dems stand, and there would be a lot of people leaving the party.
I don't think he has the connections, and being smart isn't enough around here.
