So, I'm testing a hypothesis, here. Given the fact that he had two identical "Langevin's Vote Cripple$ America" signs, that they were much more cleanly done than the typical homemade Tea Party sign, and that he made a deliberate effort to get the sign behind speakers at the 10th Amendment rally, I'm going with the theory that this guy was deliberately trying to tar the RI Tea Party's image. Anybody recognize him?
He says his name is Rob Cote
If you go to Helen Glover and hit the pod casts He is on there under Rally Signs
I am confused, was this a tea party rally or a 10th amendment rally?
Or is the Tea party trying to re brand themselves as a 10th amendment party?
Either way, with crowd numbers like that, I guess it doesn't really matter.
Justin, the picture is old news, you should pay attention a bit more, as all has been clarified about the sign. However, I do appreciate you keeping the subject alive as to continue to shed more bad light on my ineffective, failure of a congressman, Mr. Langevin.
In an effort to help to educate you, I will enclose some links for your reading enjoyment. It may interest you to note that my ineffective, failure of a congressman, Mr. Langevin, has never sponsored or passed any legislation to assist the disabled. He continues to ignore gross violations of the ADA code as it relates to handicap accessibility. He has voted in every sense to continue to raise taxes, expand the public debt, bailout the criminal banks, he has voted in his career 99.93% along party lines (fact courtesy of Open Secrets.org). He is known as a "follower" in that he has never passed ANY legislation. His staff's salaries have almost doubled since 2004, he had a known criminal on his payroll in 2007, (hmmmm, a congressman with a known criminal on the payroll, not very welled versed in security is he??)http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/expendetail.php?cid=N00009724&cycle=2008&name=Tillinghast,%20Harold
What else, oh yeah, He voted against reducing SS tax on senior citizens, but voted to give himself a $5300.00 COLA. I could go on and on, but someday, you too, when you learn to do research, will have facts like these and others at your finger tips. I do find it interesting that he owns 4 homes registered under the business name Future Realty Management Co. that his mother operates for him. Looks like he's doing pretty pretty pretty pretty good for HIMSELF !!!! As he continues to take steps to push our country closer to socialism.
One last point ,this one you should take the rubbish out of your ears so that you can hear it loud and clear. I REPRESENT NO GROUP OTHER THAN MYSELF AS A LAW ABIDING TAX PAYING CITIZEN!! GOT THAT?? Good.
Now go read a fairy tale about how good your president is, and how wonderful Marxism has worked in the past, and rest your head calmly while soldiers die so that you can spew your illiterate garbage.
Regards
Rob
But Rob, you can't represent yourself!
You have to be a tea partier, a GOP member or something else so they can call dittos to you.....
BTW, since we have someone here who appears to tell the truth, were there really 500 people at that rally as was claimed here? I always like to guestimate crowds, and saw no pic with more than 50 or so.......
Of course, if your number is less than 500, you will fall into further disfavor.
Posted by: Stuart at April 5, 2010 4:08 PMHey Rob, since you're so up on your "research", I'm sure that you're aware that when people hold up such signs in poor taste (though Constitutionally protected), the whole group gets labeled, regardless of who you think you represent.
But based on that silly little diatribe, I'm guessing you missed that day of research.
I heard Rob's call in to Helen Glover last week. He did apologize and acknowledge that on second thought he saw how it could hurt the cause more than help, and he could have been smarter about it. I chalk it up to the fact that ordinary citizens are amateurs at politics and sometimes make errors that are "obvious" to those in the know.
And yes, the rally was organized by a group whose cause is federalism and the 10th amendment; it was not organized by the Tea Party.

Who's the guy holding the yellow signs?
Posted by: Phil at April 5, 2010 4:58 PMMight be John Galt.
Posted by: michael at April 5, 2010 5:39 PMStuart,
As far as the numbers at the rally, I would say at about 2pm there were no less than 350, as I walked around (with my sign) and estimated the crowd. For any of those that did listen to the Helen Glover show when I offered an apology, the real point that I was trying to get across is that the average citizen is puking in his or her own mouth with this political correctness garbage. If we just called out a fraud as a fraud and substantiated it with some facts, we would all be better off. Unfortunately, I probably will never be politically correct due to the frustration that I encounter everyday, as my childrens future gets more and more bleak. I wonder how anyone in the house can stand up, and look at the likes of Patrick "Junkie" Kennedy, or Charlie Rangle slum lord (oops, I think I may have done it again) and refer to them as the distinguished gentlemen from -- where ever. This is the false sense of respect that we have watched propagate for the sole purpose of raping us and our taxes for personel gain. Im just one of those guys that when an elected offical gets up and lies to my face, that I have to call them out in no uncertain terms. I believe that the time for diplomacy is running out. If we sleep at the wheel any longer we may awake to a different world overnight.
Calling a guy in a wheelchair a cripple isn't politically incorrect, it is just plain old mean and stupid.
Posted by: michael at April 5, 2010 7:56 PMMuch bigger crowd in the line for iPads at one apple store! Oh well, I sorta like the old soapbox routine - so have no complaints about people wanting to jump up and down and hold signs.
As far as pols and their titles - like it or not, they get the title with the job. It doesn't mean you have to like them, and - yes - I puke when I hear words like "I've been in public service my whole life" from certain crooks. They are not in PUBLIC SERVICE. They are in SELF SERVICE.
There are some decent pols - even some who made mistakes in the past. Unfortunately, most of those are not in the Republican party currently (on a national level.....cannot speak for locally).
Posted by: Stuart at April 5, 2010 8:06 PMYou cannot speak for locally Stuart because you aren't in RI.I thought as much when,as a left leaning type, you were unfamiliar with RIF.
Tell me I'm wrong(after you've figured out what you are, paisan,or bubbele.)
Rob, believe me, we all share your considerable frustration at the very poor job our entire Congressional delegation does. And if you have observed a differential between Congressman Langevin's words and his official actions, by all means, use the "h" word (hypocritical) when referencing him.
The difference between "over the line" and "politically incorrect" is if you bring in a characteristic that the person has no control over. So, for example, while your sign went over the line (thank you for apologizing, by the way), your statement about Congressman Rangel falls short. To be more precise, he is a tax-dodging, asset-hiding slum lord.
(Of course, the funniest part about the Rangel situation is Nancy "Most Ethical Congress in History" Pelosi defending him. Simply stunning. The Speaker needs to take her comedy show on the road; people would pay good money to watch it.)
Posted by: Monique at April 5, 2010 9:52 PMMonique, people are already paying very good money to watch the Nancy and Harry Show. Scalper prices, in fact.
Posted by: BobN at April 5, 2010 9:54 PM>Tell me I'm wrong(after you've figured out what you are,paisan,or bubbele.)
You are wrong.......02871
I am not a long term resident, nor if my family from RI. I am not involved in any local politics here, having no children in school, etc....been there, done that.
But, yes, I am a taxpayer and property owner (2) as well as a boat owner, all in RI.
Believe it or not, Joe, we "common" people don't get involved in that RIF or even this stuff here...other than when we get bored. Heck, looking at voter turnout would make me come to the conclusion that more RI residents and Americans do not actually live there - so I get your drift!
As to lineage, I grew up with the small of "gravy" in the kitchens of my relatives,as well as the pickled eggplant, macaroni, etc.
But also bagels and lox. Actually, I was a steak and potatoes guy and hated seafood, which again proves I was not born in RI.
Hey, have a dells on me at the beach....we'll meet at 2nd beach when the surfin's right, or else climb out to Hanging rock and watch the scene!
Or, we'll fish for stripers off the stone bridge - you can catch some decent ones there when you get lucky.
I do read the Portsmouth Blog some dude writes on occasion, but not even the projo....I'm more a google news and NY Times type of guy.
I can't resist, the set up is just to good in Michael's post . . . Who is John Galt?
Posted by: Matt at April 5, 2010 11:26 PMI don't fish for stripers-tautog is more challenging and they are ok to eat unlike the PCB factories that stripers are.
You're not really missing much at RIF.Lotta party line thinking and disputes between people that make you and BobN sound like you're at afternoon tea. There's some guy there thaat fights with Matt Jerzyk and before that someone named Bobby O.Even the beefs I have with Rhody can't touch those.
I got transferred here on my job and stayed after retirement.I had no idea the state would go so far into the crapper through irresponsible government.
The two local Republican mayors did a really outstanding job in Warwick and Cranston given the circumstances. At least there was no loss of life.Cicilline didn't have nearly the same magnitude of difficulties because the sewage plant was unaffected and the storm drain/sewer systems are separate.
There was a lot of basement water but only isolated flooding in Providence.
I actually had more water in my basement in October 2005 when it rained for what seemed like 10 days straight.
I was once in the Hague when it rained 20 out of 21 days I was there-the wind driven downpour actually came through the brick walls of the apartment I was in.I was on the third floor, and good thing the roof held out.
I'm going with the theory that this guy was deliberately trying to tar the RI Tea Party's image. --Katz
If he had been "deliberately trying to tar the RI Tea Party's image" then the sign he was holding would have been a mirror.
No one owning up to the character in black with the yellow signs?
Why would anyone have a problem with the Rand signs? They are neither in poor taste nor dishonest.
The condition of Rhode Island's finances, economy, and urban society does resemble the one described in Atlas Shrugged in a number of disturbing ways.
Posted by: BobN at April 6, 2010 10:38 AMIt shows you how much of a joke the Right Wingers are that they:
1. Hold up signs from a FICTIONAL novel
2. Then CARE about who is holding up those signs about a made-up world..
Far, far, far from reality.
Maybe Kermit the Frog or Alice in Wonderland was right?
Damn fools!
It shows me once again why, not matter how many times I ask, right wingers are unable to show me a modern society or country which is successful based on their ideas.
It does not exist! So they go reading fairly tales and using that as a basis for their world view!
Of course, we all know Alan Greenspan was a Rand disciple........and we see where that got him! Ruined all of us, but then again the top bosses, including he, still made out OK and that is what counts.
Posted by: Stuart at April 6, 2010 12:29 PMPlease name ONE socialist country that is a success on the order of the United States.
I'm waiting.
Lots of them, Joe, if you allow for the different population bases.....
Denmark, for instance, with 6 million people is noted as being one of the happiest places on earth - by ANY measure (education, health, social well being), they are ahead of most of the world. With 1/50 the population of the USA, you would be amazed at their technical and other achievements. Engineers are heros there -as opposed to here where you have to be in music or movies to be looked up to.
To that you could add Norway, Sweden, France (they are responsible for incredible advances in medicine and engineering, etc), Switzerland and many others.
Heck, using the definition of Socialism here, we could add the UK, Canada and many more, which all when adjusted for population have great success when compared with us.
But I asked you to name ONE. You can't. They don't exist. You can't even name a few that are a reach...can you?
Of course not. Case closed. I didn't think you had the balls to mention Nazi Germany, the last really "successful" right wing country.
But since you can't name some, let me try for you...not successful, in my opinion, but right wing government.
North Korea
Iran
That's about all I can think of. Some say modern Israel is right wing, but you would call them Socialist, as the government runs the entire health care system.
Doesn't it make SOME sense to you - that if right wing governments worked for the people - that some of the 6 BILLION people on earth would choose to live under them?
I know - it makes sense...can't have that!
Posted by: Stuart at April 6, 2010 6:32 PMI'll take a wild quess and say it is chicken little in black with his yellow signs. You go Galt!
Posted by: David S at April 6, 2010 7:01 PM"Do You Know This Guy?" Justin asks.
Justin responds to some comments on AR with the 'you don't know me - you are responding to who you think I am instead of you I am' kind of avoiding. But the posts at AR are full of the same type-- Obama is a Marxist-- Unionist members do not think for themselves--leftists believe in a statist model for elites. So I ask Do you KNOW anybody? ( other than BobN who is the chicken little on my desktop)
Stuart-the Danes are happy, granted.Sweden and Norway ahve a lot of problems with depression.
Switzerland socialist? Are you insane?I don't think the countries you mentioned are socialist. The comment about me not having the "balls"to mention Nazi Germany you can shove where the sun don't shine.
I am thinking more like the USSR,Cuba,Nicaragua,Cambodia,Laos,Vietnam,China, the East European countries under the Iron Curtain,Albania,Yugoslavia prior to the breakup, various horrror stories in Africa, get it Stuart?
Why don't you move to Scandinavia?Oh,hard to answer is it?
I would not complain if I were subject to tall beautiful women, clean streets, universal health care and enlightened public policy....
But it's a bit too cold for me.
The point about the Swiss and Germans is that, according to our rightie friends (not you), they are 100% socialists because they give universal health care, pensions, housing and all those other things to everyone.
You can't (I mean the right wing can't) say "the USA is going Socialist under Obama" while at the same time saying that countries which are MILES to the left of us ARE NOT.
BTW, I have been numerous times and did business with Swedes, Danes, etc. - nicest people in the world and super liberal. Heck, they would let their 16 year old kids have beer and pizza parties in the house while they went upstairs....and somehow they mostly all turn out all right! Sex is also not a taboo, which means Justin would never want to move there.
Posted by: Stuart at April 6, 2010 10:36 PM"Cradle to grave"care was introduced into Germany by Bismarck.hardly a socialist.
I think a lot of what you call socialism
in Scandinavia,Germany, etc. was really the introduction of a small dose to ward off revolutionary chaos.Kind of like smallpox vaccine-a mild version to deter the strong version.
You won't address the blatantly socialist countries and their record of human destruction outdoing the Nazis and Japanese, will you?
The plain fact is that the Chinese and Soviet dictatorships killed tens of millions,Stuart, but they don't count,do they?Even the Cambodians managed to kill millions in a relatively small country.
The US is a great success. So is Autralia,New Zealand, and some of the Eastern European countries are getting there.
I don't think national health care makes a country socialist.I just don't know that it would work here.
I really don't have the answer for health care here. There are sometimes we have to admit we don't know the answers.I don't think you can do that.
Ok, so this entire bro-hah-hah of the right - where we have "lost" this country in their opinion, is based on a weak start for taking care of some people who are currently uninsured? Well, you'll have to give upi your membership in the Tea Party.....
As to not knowing the solution, that seems quaint. This is a problem that much of the world has faced and dealt with in one way or the other. It is not rocket science, rather it is closer to the idea of transportation infrastructure or financial regulation, etc.
It is part and parcel of modern life.
We have been looking at this, as a country, since the time of Teddy Roosevelt, about 100 years! Maybe you or I don't have the solution, but we don't know how to build a space ship either! However, a smart and resourceful country of 300 million SHOULD easily be able to head toward a solution, especially when lack of such is putting us over a cliff and behind the rest of the world.
But one party is fighting against that because...well, NOT because they like us, but because they see it as their job to protect the profits of vast corporations. In fact, that same party has top politicians who make billions from health care companies - Romney and Bill Frist being the two most well known.
I'm all for free enterprise if they can act morally and do the job for the same price or less. But they don't - in fact, they turn down people from getting the treatment they need, while also charging us double what the rest of the world pays. That is not a sustainable model.
When the Tea Party complains about this bill or anything else which attempts to reform the system, what they are really saying is that they enjoy breaking the bank and back of the USA, and that they support profits of a few over the basic comfort and happiness of our fellow citizens.
That is not how I was taught in civics class.
