John Robitaille (And Clearly John Robitaille) on Today's 38 Studios Development
As of 8:45 this evening, Katherine Gregg's 7-to-7 item on today's developments in the 38 Studios deal contains what appears to be a typographical echo...
Urging them both to cease their attempts to "interfere'' with the $75 million loan guarantee agreement with Schilling's 38 Studios, Carcieri said: "Businesses and the bond market should not be subject to political posturing. The attitudes and positions taken by Mr. Caprio and Mr. Chafee serve only to undermine the positive economic development steps the state has taken in recent years."Despite rumors perhaps circulating amongst MSM journalists and their editors, all Republicans don't sound alike. According to representatives from the Robitaille campaign, the bolded quote is theirs; the prior quotes are from Governor Carcieri. He also defended the deal, citing the Economic Development Corporation's unanimous vote "to move forward with the 38 Studios deal,'' after "months of due diligence.''
"It is a gross overstatement to imply that the Job Creation Guaranty Act reflects poorly on the state's financial management or could have an adverse impact on the state's bond rating. The fact is that a loan guarantee bond of this size or type has no impact on the state's general obligation or its bond rating,'' he asserted.
"It's obvious that Linc Chafee and Frank Caprio are anti-business and do not understand economic development. They are sending a 'keep out' message to any businesses that might consider moving to Rhode Island. With their opposition to the 38 Studio loan guaranty they are killing jobs and hurting Rhode Island families."
And his former communications director John Robitaille, the endorsed Republican candidate for governor said: "It's obvious that Linc Chafee and Frank Caprio are anti-business and do not understand economic development. They are sending a 'keep out' message to any businesses that might consider moving to Rhode Island...They are killing jobs and hurting Rhode Island families."
I guess we should consider Mass and Maryland anti business too since they are just letting 38 studios go and not even matching our offer. You would think those two states would miss business with such a promising future?
Posted by: Swazool at August 31, 2010 10:12 PMGovernment should not be in the business of corporate welfare.
Posted by: Tommy Cranston at September 1, 2010 8:09 AMPeriod.
It is as obscene as the insane policy of subsidizing illegal aliens with free food, apartments, medical, baby sitting, education, etc.
This is why we are doomed. On so many issues the Big Government Right competes with the toilet scum progressives/communists to see who can drive us over the cliff the fastest.
Think globalism, militarism, Bushist open borders, fascist Patriot Actism, the war on drugs and more.
We have 2 Thelma and Louise parties. One on cruise control and the progressives with the throttle pushed down as far as they can get it.
Of the major candidates in this race, John Robitaille is the ONLY one who has run his own small business. He is the ONLY CANDIDATE who has experienced Rhode Island's suffocating tax system for business owners. He has my vote.
Posted by: Brian401 at September 1, 2010 11:46 AMGuess Caprio isn't the only gubernatorial candidate flip-flopping on the deal.
Posted by: rhody at September 1, 2010 1:40 PMMaybe the GOP's hands-off policy re: Caprio is no longer operative.
Hi!
Posted by: Scott Bill Hirst at September 1, 2010 2:38 PMI want the Governor to put an end to the rumor that he is supporting Frank Caprio for Governor. That has been out there for some time. If it is not true I would appreciate a denial.
On the Schilling deal I need to know more than I do know to comment. One deal in most cases don't make or break a state, it is perception of the state on taxes, labor pool, climate, and other factors.
Victor Moffitt has both investment and accounting background and knows a lot about small business in addition to legislative experience. He is propsing some solutions to get the state to improve. While I may not agree with all his answers, he is bringing some odeas to the table.
Regards,
Scott
I suspect Carcieri is backing Caprio, Scott. The family ties, and I also wonder if this is the payback for all the Democrats for Carcieri support he's gotten in his campaigns.
Posted by: rhody at September 2, 2010 11:24 AMThe only way he'll ever say who he's supporting, unfortunately, is if the winner of the GOP primary publicly calls him on it. Unfortunately, I don't see Robitaille making that move - kind of the girl sitting home praying the quarterback calls to invite her to the prom.
If the GOP is truly the party of free enterprise, Republicans should not be cheering Robitaille's position on this.
Brian401, Victor Moffit has, started, owned and still runs a business, in Rhode Island. He's also worked on state budgets as a former member of the General Assembly.
Moffit is also the most anti-Chafee and unlike Carcieri, that's why I like him.
Posted by: George at September 2, 2010 4:36 PMHi!
Posted by: Scott Bill Hirst at September 2, 2010 5:29 PMI think any Governor is the titular leader of their party. Governor Carcieri has not been a real party builder, a fact that won't be lost on political scientists, historians, and journalists, and political activists, and a number in the general public.
It will be interesting how books that describe politics in the New England states address this matter in books mainly seen by academics. I hope I get a chance to see them when published.
Without going into detail about that rumor, I do not dismiss it out of hand.
Regards,
Scott
If Schillings business proposal is so good, then why can't he raise money on the open market, either through an IPO, or a stock or bond offering through an investment banking firm?
Posted by: x at September 3, 2010 2:16 PMI'm still learning from you, while I'm making my way to the top as well. I certainly liked reading all that is written on your site.Keep the posts coming. I liked it!
