He seems so astonishingly unique and determined, but the reality is that, if conservatives wish to move the country in the direction that we believe to be the right one, we're going to have to elect a lot more leaders like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie:
Part of Gov. Chris Christie's belt-tightening plan for New Jersey was the termination of $7.5 million in public money for Planned Parenthood clinics in the state. But Democrats in the senate fought back, passing with a 30-10 majority a bill that reinstated the funding. That margin included several Republicans and was enough to be veto-proof. But when that veto actually came, Republicans wary of crossing Christie peeled off, and the measure failed 23-17.
Every government expenditure has a bought and sold constituency and some dressing that makes it seem critical to somebody, even when the funded action is the killing of unborn children. Throughout the last decade, we've seen the results of electing people for whom "compromising" somehow always leads to the growth and expansion of government.
Republicans who supported the bill would not buck their party's governor by supporting the override vote.
That's from the same piece of trash from which Justin quoted.
We've got a Republican here who asked voters to support her for office and then turned around and quit just days after winning the primary election. In New Jersey the Republicans are for a bill and then against it. Who can trust these frauds and cowards? Who would want to be associated with this group of liars and schemers?
Wow, Phil. I didn't know you were such a strict partisan for those honest Democrats...
Posted by: Justin Katz at September 24, 2010 7:22 AMYikes! Not the sacred cow of abortion funding.
Posted by: Monique at September 24, 2010 8:11 AMYeah, Phil,
You just gotta love the stupid liberal Democrats - kill the babies, but save the trees.
Apparently, you are not from New Jersey. If you were, you'd know that the Christie budget increased taxes and spending, including various entitlement programs. State spending is up 6%.
Christie is also soft on illegal immigration, facilitating Obamacare, and promulgating Cap & Trade.
Conservative hero? More like a RINO in sheep's clothing.
I didn't say anything about Christie. I was talking about the seven dwarfs in NJ and the former Republican candidate for Lt. Governor in RI.
Justin I am not a strict partisan. In fact I do not plan on voting for the Democratic candidate for governor in RI and I am on the fence about the Attorney General race.
Monique
You do say something like this as least once a week. See Justin for explanation.
Mike Cappelli
My mother told me not to talk to crazy people but I haven't always taken her advice. The advice I did take was this: wine on whiskey ..very risky, whiskey on wine.. very fine. You ought to try it sometime. Have a nice day.
Posted by: Phil at September 24, 2010 11:45 PMPhil-I ddin't think you'd be voting for Robitaille, but it sounds like you're going with the babbling nitwit. How can you listen to Chafee and vote for him?He sounds brain damaged.
I'll hold my nose and vote for Caprio.
What a weak array of candidates.
Hi Joe
You are correct in your assumption. When it comes to Chafee I guess you and I hear different things. You are not alone. He has been refered to as the "Missing Linc". How are you leaning on the Attorney General race?
Posted by: Phil at September 26, 2010 12:51 PMThe AG's race?Glad you asked-there are three decent candidates-Kilmartin,Wallin,and Little.
I have no idea who Rainville is,so I won't comment on him.
McKenna is a jerk.
I actually haven't made up my mind-I giess it will come down to some specific details of where they stand on certain issues.
Joe
I'm down to Kilmartin and Little. I'll wait and watch and listen.
