Oh Goody; a Surplus

Justin Katz

I just learned, during tonight's Town Council meeting in Tiverton, that Town Treasurer Phil DiMattia is projecting that the 2010 fiscal year brought nearly $1 million surplus. During a recession. With a large tax increase for the current fiscal year.

That, by the way, doesn't include federal funds given to the school department by the federal and state governments. Nice to know as I go through the weekly exercise of figuring out which bills will be least punitive not to pay, even as I try to figure out how to afford some Christmas presents for my children.

Cripes.

A governing fundamental: it is as irresponsible to over-tax as it is to over-spend.

And the corollary: just because there is a budget surplus doesn't necessarily mean that expenditures are under control and that the red pen can be set aside.

True, Monique, but there's a little fine print on the first one:

If you can get a service -endowed-, then it boosts your credit rating and reduces taxes in the long run.

I wonder why this hasn't been thought of more... I'll bet $50 in an account per-tree would pay for a whole tree's lifetime of upkeep. Same for sidewalks, roads, pipes, gas lines, etc.

People are slowly catching up to the idea that the Democrats are con men.
Every deeply "Blue" state or municipality has the same scam-working people get brutally raped to feed the progressive royal family: cronies, public unions, illegal aliens and welfare parasites.
Make sure you do your XMAS shopping online or in Mass.
Don't give the GARBAGE on Smith Hill a dime more than you have to.
