CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, is held every year and serves as a sort of bellwether for the conservative movement. According to Roger L. Simon, there was a different twist this year:
The party staged by Andrew Breitbart for GOProud — the gay Republican and conservative group — was as close to a game changer as things get and the most interesting event at CPAC by far, at least to this point — and that’s meant as no insult to CPAC. With sexy Sophie B. Hawkins singing to a boisterous, supportive crowd, the party almost obliterated in one night the conception that Republicans are anti-gay and gave the impression that young libertarians — and some not so young — are taking over the GOP. Pretty soon it may be cool to be a Republican and square to be a Democrat.Simon does check himself for possibly being a bit hyperbolic, but that libertarians seem to be taking over CPAC--Ron Paul is an annual crowd-pleaser--is an interesting development. Meanwhile, more socially conservative groups opted not to attend CPAC this year.
This... Is awesome.
I honestly don't feel comfortable voting for either mainstream party anymore. The Republican party needs a genuine 'freedom oriented' rebirth. I think the Tea Party was supposed to be that, but from my perspective, it quickly turned into a social conservative free-for-all.
"Don't tread on me!" ::votes to not even debate USA PATRIOT act::
"We need to cut these fat union contracts... So we can afford more war!"
That's what I see overall from the right these days, except from Anchor Rising, which continues to redeem conservatism for me on a daily basis.

Big government "conservative" war mongers and morality police can go form an Authoritarian party with progressives.
Posted by: Dan at February 11, 2011 6:15 PM Sounds like NOM was the big loser out there last night. I suppose they can throw a big bash in NYC come September for Admidinejad and the Idi Amin wannabes in Uganda at the UN meeting.
Interesting observation at the House Wednesday night: freshman Rep. Chippendale, as a freshman Tea Party Republican, seemed pretty supportive of SSM. May the libertarian wing of the Tea Party prove out.
While making a surprise appearance at the conservative CPAC conference in Washington DC, the draft-dodging coward former Vice President Dick Cheney was heckled by Ron Paul supporters as a "war criminal" and "murdering scum." One asked, "Where's Bin Laden?"
Sammy in Arizona
The problem with Ron Paul and his flock of Ludwig von Mises-wannabee lemmings is that while they have a sensible understanding of money and banking, they completely fail to understand or acknowledge the growing threat that radical islam poses to the free world. They are as much a part of the "blame America first" movement as the far left Jerimiah Wright radicals. If we take a naive approach to the threat of radical islam, it won't matter how much Government is cut, or whether the Federal Reserve system is dismantled. We'll all be under sharia law --- real friendly to homosexuals and women.
Wake up dreamers, there is Good and there is evil. Evil must be met with force and crushed, not appeased.
