...remembering too that it is a very serious day.
Thanks for the reminder. I left the firework festivities before the show started in disgust. For too many, it seems like New Years Eve in July. For many, many others, well, they should be celebrating "Dependence Day". Today has become a frustrating reminder of how far we've strayed.
Posted by: swamper at July 4, 2011 9:05 PMGlad to have come home to my humble abode in Snug Harbor.
The annual Great Island vs. Snug Harbor fireworks showdown was uplifting, to say the least. Volley for a few minutes from one side then pause. Volley from other side then pause. Repeat. It's still going on. I'm sure these guys collectively spend way more than the public display at Old Mountain Field.
The Old Mountain Field show gets more bangs for the bucks spent, but the spirit of the competition that imitates battle between these private guys' personal shows more than makes up for the big booms at the Town sponsered event. No paid patrols checking peddlers for licenses, directing traffic, crowd control, etc. And I got to enjoy it all from the comfort of my own deck, free of charge and no tax money spent, either.
I keep hearing something in my mind about rising tides raising all ships (JFK), and I think I just witnessed it.
