Can You Focus on Cicilline, Please?
I've been meaning to put up a post asking both the Loughlin and Doherty campaigns if it is possible to focus on one thing, winning the Congressional District 1 seat. Is that possible? Why is it required to tear each other apart as a part of the race? And now, why is it necessary to disparage the RI Republican Party along the way? With some of the quotes in the GLP article, you'd wonder if it wasn't Democrat Chairman Ed Pacheco pulling the strings.
So were Cicione and Governor Carcieri responsible for damaging the Party?Why are some Republicans airing their own internal dirty laundry in public? What is this going to help? Or more importantly, who is this going to help? Well, that answer is easy, all GOP infighting is going to help David Cicilline. Just like when Sheldon Whitehouse took the Senate seat, both Chafee and Laffey camps pointed at each other for poisoning the waters so badly that Whitehouse breezed through election day.

Why does it have to be this way? No one person is entitled to either a seat or a spot on the ticket unopposed. If each Loughlin and Doherty think he is the best person for both the Republican nomination and for the US House seat, then that's great, work for it. However, it's not going to do you any good or the people you serve to negatively attack your GOP opponent. Instead, tell people why you are the better man for the job. Explain what ideas you have that will help both Rhode Island and this country. Explain why you are better served for that seat than the current sitting Congressman. He's the one you have to beat.
A primary can be a great thing for both Loughlin and Doherty. It will focus the media's attention on the candidates and will get more microphones in front of both of them. Use that in a positive way. Worry about your internal struggles internally and worry about the external problems externally. Keep the focus on the end-goal, winning the House seat and even work together to do whatever it takes toward that goal.

Who is worried enough about re-election to have just opened constituent offices in Newport and Woonsocket.
Would it be naive of me to suggest that Loughlin and Doherty sit down and workout a gentleman's agreement to focus on Cicilline instead of tearing each other apart? I don't need to see debates between the two. I want them to clearly articulate their positions and then if necessary, let the voters decide in a primary. Is that possible?

So let's hear them. Let's hear what they would do if they were the Congressman from RI District 1. They don't have to say why the other one is stupid or self-serving or disingenuous. Tell me what he believes in and what he'd do in DC.
And to be fair, I have not heard either Doherty or Loughlin themselves say a negative word about the other, it's all followers and probably campaign helpers. But they're not helping at all. Focus on your own candidate and focus on beating David Cicilline.
The best attack on Cicilline will probably come from a primary challenger-Anthony Gemma and Meryl Sherman,CEO of Bank RI,have been mentioned,although the latter has little name recognition.
Gemma had Cicilline nailed and the scared geezers were bought off again with lobster rolls and fear.
Gemma isn't as odious as Cicilline by a mile,but he isn't that well grounded in what's going on in the world.
I think either Doherty or Loughlin would debate rings around him.
Meryl Sherman is smart and well-respected-I met her once and spoke to her on a call in show and she answers questions directly.

LOL. And in this brain damaged progressive hellhole-a good shot at re-election.
Tommy, I love responding to your blatent trolls... especially when I'm leaving the state tomorrow because:
A) There are no jobs here.
B) This state is run by corporate/church Democrats -- NOT progressives.
C) People might actually re-elect Cicilline (who managed to screw the pooch on something as simple as control of the SPR) -- they won't re-elect him because he's great. They'll re-elect him because of the letter after his name.
Democratic hellhole? Yes!

David Segal probably was an actual "progressive",but he was clueless as to what actually goes on in the world and why.The child was enamored of left wing mythology.He was vomiting stuff I heard from left wing robots in the 1950's.
The 50's,aside from segregation and that kind of sh*t was a good time in America.
We had a defined enemy and we were the Promised Land.

The reason Whitehouse won against Chaffee was that there was no willingness to send another Republican to the U.S. Senate despite Chaffee's popularity with the voters. The mood here in RI reflected much of the country's feeling that President Bush and the Republicans in Congress had led the country into two wars with no end in sight. Even though Chaffee was against Bush's policies there was the concern about control of the Senate remaining Republican if Democrats were not elected. For Chaffee it was a case of being in the wrong party.

I had a similar medical problem in 2007.
I had two totally antagonistic alternatives involving cancer surgery/herat disease.
My cancer surgeon told me-"you have no good choice here".
He was right.
A week later I came pretty close to rolling a 7 as a result.
The fact that I didn't is due to good medical treatment and the fact that I can drive while bleeding out.Call me a liar-I dare you pal.
I spent a week in ICU and a lot longer recovering,but that's the way I felt about that election.
Two absolute effete pieces of sh*t.

That Sheldon Whitehouse and Lincoln Chafee are not basically the exact same guy who were born into slightly different social circles.
Sheldon is slightly more comfortable in the spotlight, Chafee, for all the cracks made on him, is in fact the more wonky/nerdy one.
But seriously. The same guy.
At least D-1 will offer RI some choice. Here's hoping a decent independent will emerge so that I don't have to support sending a national Republican to Congress to go play with the scorched-earth party (er, I mean Tea Party).
I mean guys -- how do you reconcile some of the truly more out there national Republican Party policy with the folks you seek to elect in RI?
I have no issues with more state-level R's, but you really want a reversal of the Clean Air Act (voted on in 2010), or huge subsidies for agribusiness (voted on by Rs and many Ds every year), or in the more radical circles -- a reversion back to the Gold Standard, the cancellation of all non-defense federal programs, etc.
Just seems like the R's coming out of other parts of the country are a LOT crazier than the ones in RI.
