Car Tax Evaluation Committee: Typical?

Marc Comtois

Warwick Car Tax Revolt leader Rob Cote has done a great service to the citizens of Warwick and the state by keeping the heat on our elected officials regarding the car tax. Further to that end, he decided to drop in on the annual Car Tax Evaluation Committee meeting, buried somewhere in the State House Administrative building. What he found was an embarrassment (h/t Dan Yorke Show).

Unfortunately, I suspect this is all-too typical of what goes on with other boards in our state government.

Comments

Idea for the RI car market: Totally stripped-down vehicles with very low book values.

You take it to a shop to have all the trim and options added afterwards.

Standing O for Rob!

Great job to Rob and Dean Costa for the video record. The dumb founded look on the faces of the commission members is priceless.

Unfortuantly this is typical at all levels of government, especially in Warwick.

It's too bad for Mr. Cote. He has a legitimate cause but he surrounded himself with a a very small group of people that are only interested in criticizing everything that people do and seeing their names in the newspaper. This poor man is being told he can actually get elected to office next year. What a shame... he's going to get his butt kicked like the man that wears the stupid hat.

"Public Hearings" are just a way towear out the public. The decision is made, but then they can say they received input from the public. "We had 5 public hearings, etc. etc."

The real action starts at 12 minutes. Great illustrative video of the insulated indifference of the "state". Cote is the Paul Revere of taxpayers. His cause is just and makes sense. The apathy and arrogance of the big sucking sound is apparent...they just want your freakin' money and they'll manufacture reasons and legislation to take it.

Worse are the hearings put on by Congress. Total waste of time for everyone involved and make-work for the Agencies who monitor them. They should just be abolished and "experts" could submit reports that would be posted online.

"First we have 4 witnesses handpicked by this committee to tell us what we want to hear. We'll be asking 2 hours of pompous, loaded questions and feigning interest, and, finally, we'll have some guy chosen by the minority party who will be totally ignored. We will then be deliberating carefully over the testimony to bolster, I mean reach, our decision."

Along with building sized portraits of the "experts" in every city and town.

"building sized portraits of the "experts" in every city and town."

Comrade Phil has found a way to put all these agitators in the park to work!

Rob is upset because his car taxes went up but he's barking up the wrong tree.

Warwick needs more vehicle tax dollars so even if Rob gets his way and everyone's car value is cut in half, the City will just double the tax rate and his tax bill will be the same

And... why shouldn't the city get some $$ from car owners ?? My 55 yr old ne'er-do-well brother-in-law lives rent-free with his mother in Warwick and doesn't pay the city a penny in taxes, so why shouldn't he get dinged with a tax on his vehicle to help pay for all the city services he consumes ??

Spread the pain ... why should I -- as a Warwick property owner -- have to pay the whole tab for his & every other free-loader's snow plowing / trash pickup / etc / etc ??

Warwick's tax burden is being jacked up due to Avedesian and some members of the city council using city and other services to bring the dregs of Providence and Cranston to live in the city, and be subsidized by our tax dollars.
