Tuesday Political Open Thread

Carroll Andrew Morse

Polls from Brown University's Taubman Center and WPRI-TV (CBS 12) say that Congressman David Cicilline is in serious electoral trouble.

The X-factor impacting his near-certain use of a standard medi-scare campaign is that Brendan Doherty can counter with "David Cicilline will leave Social Security and Medicare in the same condition he left Providence -- and the Democratic Party is alright with that".

To which Barry Hinckley can add "...including Sheldon Whitehouse".

According to the same polls, Governor Lincoln Chafee is not very popular. State Treasurer Gina Raimondo and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras are. Yet, somehow I doubt that this will impact how self-proclaimed "realists" insist that accountability to the electorate is the problem, rather than how elected pols approach the citizenry, when difficult decisions need to be made.

Michigan and Arizona vote in Republican Presidential primaries tonight (where delegates will actually be awarded).

The conventional wisdom is that the near-frontrunner attention that Rick Santorum attracted over the past two weeks, in conjunction with his lackluster performance in the most recent debate, will probably drag him under. If that's right, everything is in place for Mitt Romney to win the nomination as the traditional Republican next-guy-in-line. If it's wrong, we may have finally reached truly uncharted territory.

Comments

Up until this poll I thought Gayvid had a shot in this brain damaged state.
With this poll I think he is OUT of the race by the end of March. Probably a cushy no-show 6 figure job with a non-profit, possibly funded by multi-millionare sodomite Congressman Jared Polis of Colorado.
In the unlikely event that Gayvid is the nominee your ad-"David Cicilline will leave Social Security and Medicare in the same condition he left Providence -- and the Democratic Party is alright with that" is exactly what needs to be done. Present Doherty as the honest defender of all elderly giveaways in contrast to the crooked, pathologically lying toxic sludge that is the incumbent. Make sure to have audio of him mincing about how "very very very very very very very very very very very very proud" he is about his Mayoral record.

Tommy,

Your focus on sexual orientation is offensive and does nothing but make it easier for people to dismiss whatever else you may want to say.

I doubt even gay men think about sodomy as much as Tommy does. A gay man must have run over his dog when he was little or something.

How's this for proof the idiots in the RIGOP just don't get it. So you don't think closing the primary was a good idea, huh?? It's actually quite fitting that the guy most RIGOPers want to win, just might be going down because of an open primary system in Michigan. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!!

Which 'guy' would that be Mike?

My "focus" on this blog has always been on corruption, cronyism and the insanely unsustainable economic policies of progressives.
Those who regard sodomy as normal (superior behavior in the Providence Phoenix's world) seek to silence the majority of the planet that doesn't in the exact same way the militant Atheist Left seeks to bar discussion of faith from the public square.
I, for one, shall not be silenced. If you read today's NY Times you will see that Africans are rising up against the scummy, arrogant, spiritually bankrupt Western progressives on this very issue.

Dan - thank you for that laugh!

Tommy, who cares about the Africans. Just look at France, during "the Regency", sodomy was the "sport of kings". Britain's problem with it in the 1940's and 50's almost destroyed their national security. Here, up until the middle 1970's (perhaps longer) it was impossible for unmarried men to get a security clearance of significance. Harvard is now granting posthumous degrees to sodomites denied entry in the 1920's, the time period suggests some tie to the Leopold-Loeb thrill killing.

My advice, move on to catamites.

"about how "very very very very very very very very very very very very proud" he is about his Mayoral record."

I'm also very very very very very very very very very very very very pleased to have the support of Mayor Taveras and Treasurer Raimondo. (The State Treasurer supports me!!! Can you believe it!?!?! My faith in this state has been restored!)

And I'm very very very very very very very very very very very very much looking forward to depositing the moola from their fundraiser into my campaign account.
