Democrats Stay Home

Patrick Laverty

If you live in the First Congressional District, the only race you care about voting in on primary day this fall and you're a Democrat, you can stay home. The race is over, just come vote in November.

Anthony Gemma was on the Helen Glover Show this morning and he repeatedly contrasted himself with Republican Brendan Doherty. At one point, Glover asked Gemma directly, whether he will attack Cicilline at all during the race. Gemma paused and said "I won't hit a man when he's down." Then later went on to add "This race is between me and Brendan Doherty."

So there you have it Dems. It's over, just stay home, there will be no primary in September.

Or maybe Gemma is right. Maybe he knows something that Mark Zaccaria predicted earlier. Will Cicilline drop out of the race due to his sagging poll numbers and clear the field for Gemma to take on Doherty unscathed?

Comments

Beating Cicilline would be a much harder task for Doherty than beating Gemma.
Cicilline is a complete and total scumbag of a human being but he's a masterful pol with tremendous debating skills.
And let's face it, Democrats will vote for Adolph Hitler as long as he has a D after his name.

Cicilline leads in endorsements and fundraising. The progressive "useful idiots" on RIFuture are already lining up behind him. RI will hold its nose when it reelects him, but reelect him it will. Some things never change.

Dan, Democrats don't hold their noses when voting for dirtbags like Cicilline. There is no stench strong enough to chase the majority of Dems away from a creep like him. They have no moral or ethical base to start with so a David Cicilline does not offend their sensitivities in any way.
I was not kidding when I said Democrats would vote for Adolph Hitler if he had a D after his name.

I don't understand what the big hubbub about Gemma is. It's clear that he's not going to get the nomination, regardless of Cicilline's ratings.

Also, I thought democracy was supposed to percolate the best of us to office? What the heck is going on here?

Historically low poll numbers or not, completely ignoring a sitting congressman who is, by definition, your primary opponent would seem to be naive strategy to pursue. Maybe Gemma has been 'hired' by the Ciccilline campaign to come out swinging against Doherty since that is the only hope of getting his poll numbers up. Until the general election, anything that is negative for Doherty will have chance at being positive for Ciccilline regardless of spin that Gemma gives it.

*I was not kidding when I said Democrats would vote for Adolph Hitler if he had a D after his name.*

That's how an Independent was elected Governor. Idiot.

*Also, I thought democracy was supposed to percolate the best of us to office? What the heck is going on here?*

This must have come as a shock to you hard on the heels of the discovery that the Easter Bunny is not real.

Sorry. I should not have said anything about the Easter Bunny.

I must say that I have seen more campaign mistakes in the last few months then I have in all of 2010. No I am not omnipotent but where do these political consultants come from? What happened yesterday? Cicilline the real problem, got a pass---all day! Last I checked he is polling at 14% and has a primary. Of course today he probably gained a few points. Unbelievable! Just let him rise from the dead. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
