NB: THIS POLL CLOSED 6/26/2012
This is the first in a series of polls that I'm putting together this week to find out who our readers turn to for their news and political analysis in the Mainstream Media (that means no bloggers or website-based organizations <--I changed my mind in a couple areas...stay tuned).
UPDATED: Here is the schedule of polls:
Tuesday, June 19th (today) - Favorite Radio Political Talk Show
Wednesday, June 20th - Favorite Political Roundtable Show
Thursday, June 21st - Favorite Local Electronic Media News Team
Friday, June 22nd - Favorite Local Media Investigative Team
Saturday, June 23rd - Favorite Radio News and Info Talk Show
All polls will be closed by next Tuesday, June 26th (yes, that means unequal polling time length, but live with it!).
First up are the local radio political talk shows. The requirements for being put on this list were: 1) Had to be a daily show based in Rhode Island (so no Boston-based shows); 2) Had to focus primarily on news and political analysis (WPRO Morning News didn't qualify--they'll be in another category); 3) I had to be able to hear their signal in my car (which eliminated the shows on the Woonsocket Radio station. Sorry guys!).
So without further ado, here is the first poll questions (listed alphabetically by last name):
This is a tough one for me. I disagree with Dan Yorke often but I find him to be pretty fair in his criticisms of people and groups. I disagree with him but I respect him. Buddy is the most fun to listen to and I find him to be pretty fair and candid. Buddy also initiates great banter and has some of the best guests. Matt is fun to listen to but I find him too slanted and unduly biased in his criticisms. In my opinion John DePetro is just a ridiculous blow hard who is boarderline irresponsible with his pulpit. I feel that he plays insanely loose with facts and I feel he knowingly misleads people. I dont listen to Helen Glover. All in all I voted for Buddy.
Posted by: Rich at June 19, 2012 2:49 PMNone of these pseudo conservatives would make it on Arizona talk radio, right-wing-nuts here demand a higher level of crazy. Dan Yorke would get the boot first, he is way too liberal
Matt Allen is breath of fresh air. Dan is OK, but needs to come down from his self-errected ivory tower once in a while. DePetro is too sensationalistic and plays to the lowest common denominator. Buddy is good for mid-day laugh. And if I wanted to know what Helen Glover was interested in yelling about, I'd simply turn on Hannity the night before (no original thought there).
Posted by: Newporter at June 19, 2012 8:02 PMWhy have I been getting a "You are not allowed to post comments" message?
Posted by: Dan at June 19, 2012 9:18 PMDan, I don't know. Since you DID post a comment here, I guess you mean at the pollcode.com website...but I don't control that.
Posted by: Marc at June 19, 2012 9:20 PMAR doesn't like my hotel IP or travel laptop for some reason... I'll have to use my phone while in Boston on business. Incidentally, I'll be visiting RI this weekend to try to convince my RI friends and family to sell their homes and move before the Providence bankruptcy.
Posted by: Dan at June 19, 2012 10:27 PMIs it one of those promotional hors d'oevre parties where you'll give them gifts and argue that they can double their money on real estate sales?
Posted by: Justin Katz at June 19, 2012 11:24 PMOn Point with Tom Ashbrook. Gotta say, NPR is the soundtrack to my life.
Posted by: mangeek at June 20, 2012 12:50 AMI know this is a tiny sampling but the DePetro numbers would indicate that he has mostly a liberal audience looking for something to keep themselves angry.

It might be a good time to be "in cash". At present, except for waterfront property, there is no economic engine at work to drive prices up. If you think about it, all that drove prices up in the last cycle was the ability to get a mortgage "if you could fog a mirror".
