I don’t think you’re off base, Don. I do think, however, there’s a whiff of Rhode Islandism in your thinking.
Rather than shrinking from the seepage of resources that increasing the freedom (of movement, in this case) of our citizens might entail, we ought to ponder why they’re inclined to seep in the first place. It may prove that increasing the opportunities for Rhode Islanders to snub the state for anything other than living in will increase the incentive for some internal reflection.
(In know, I know… naive. But I seem to recall a thing called hope that I brought with me from elsewhere.)
I think this is an excellent business development. T.F. Green is very well-designed and host to the major national and even international carriers operating in the the US but has, at least until now, remained a distinctly regional airport, catering to local business travel and vacationers out of Providence, EG, Warwick, Cranston, etc. Now, with an efficient connection to Boston, ten bets that Green takes off and we see another expansion of the runways and supporting infrastructure within the next few years. Don’t forget that Southwest, far and away the most successful and utilized American airline of the 21st century does not, repeat does NOT fly out of Logan. Really excited about this news and extremely greatful to Chafee for getting the projec off the ground.

Adam is right. This will be a boon to the RI economy. Don, people already drive to South Attleboro to get the commuter rail. This just eases the commute and will help draw new people into the state. They will spend their money locally, even if the State of RI won’t be able to collect its full pound of flesh in the form of income tax.
It’s just a shame that RI couldn’t come up with the funds to put a station at the airport. Then again, that would be actual money spent on economic development and heaven knows, we need that money to pay for Fred Sanford’s state salary, healthcare and pension! Just kidding, Fred..
Anything that promotes the free exchange of goods and services is generally a positive thing. Of course, I’m sure someone in Laffey’s camp will just describe this as another piece of pork that Chafee secured….
Considering the price of gas and the Big Dig fiasco, anything that encourages people to use public transportation is something to be encouraged.
Six bucks from here to Boston? Awesome! When I pay eight bucks for the South Attleboro-Foxboro run for Patriots games, I’m getting over on the parking savings.

This is a joke right? This “train” station is like tuna casserole but someone forgot the tuna. No Amtrak??? Are you kidding, what we have here is a $224 million parking garage for rental car companies.

Perhaps no one stopped to think that with the exception of college students no one has the 1.5 hours it will take an MBTA train to get from S. Station to Warwick, all to arrive early enough (1 hour before) for your flight. That’s right, lots of people from Bean-town taking the 6:05 AM SWA to Baltimore, oh wait, the T doesn’t run early enough to get to TF Green by 5:00 AM.
The idea that hordes of people will now flock to Green because they can take a slow, hot ride for 1.5 hours on the T can only come from someone who, well, has taken WAY TOO MANY slow, hot rides on the T.
The only thing that made this thing go was Amtrak, speed and additional schedule options supplemented by the T.
