ProJo Spins 75% Approval of E-Verify
Hey, you. The one who was part of the 75% percent of Rhode Islanders who said they approve of Governor Carcieri’s E-verify Executive Order (and presumably the E-verify bill that just got killed by Senator Theresa Paiva-Weed). Guess what? The Journal’s Steve Peoples and/or Cynthia Needham think you were just confused…or something…by the question (the only one they commented on, btw):
Seventy-five percent agree with the governor’s executive order cracking down on illegal immigrants. The order, according to a vague and rather long survey question, “requires that the Federal E-Verify system be used to screen state workers and employees of companies doing business with the state and directs certain state agencies to work cooperatively with Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel in enforcing federal immigration laws.”
You poor, ADD-ridden rubes, you must have gotten distracted by a shiny object while listening to the question and just answered “Yes.”
The question that they SHOULD have asked in the poll is “Do you think Karen Lee Ziner should STFU?” That would have been a CLEAR 90% positive vote.

Journalistic bias of the worst kind. How can a respectable news editor allow such bias to destroy any integrity the article was meant to have? Perhaps I just answered my own question.
Please explain to me what is vague and confusing about the Governor , E-Verify , State Workers ,companies doing business with the State , working cooperatively with I C E and enforcing laws .Peoples and Needham must really be the most confused , they actually included the word ILLEGAL in their article . Something really strange going on here . Maybe it could be grasping at straws .
You notice how they don’t put that only 18% were opposed, meaning the people are against the “progressives” by over 4-1.
Heads up, ProJo Newsroom! The question was long BECAUSE it was specific; i.e., the opposite of vague.
I absolutely agree with Monique. If anything, the question was actually too specific. If the question had simply been phrased: “Do you agree with Governor Carcieri’s recent Executive Order on Illegal Immigration?”, I’d be willing to bet he would have easily exceeded 90% approval. If anything, the way the question was actually phrased, probably caused the approval percentage to seem lower. There were several other questions in the whole poll that would lead me to believe that given a larger sample size, and a clearer breakdown of party affiliation, the actual percentage in favor of the governor’s stance is actually far in excess of 75%. For instance, I certainly don’t believe that McCain will/would only get 25% of the vote in Rhode Island. Between senior citizens, military veterans, and disgruntled Hillary supporters, he probably already has 40%. Although I’m not exactly a fan of his, I know statistics and demographics, and what was stated in the poll is not going to happen. McCain will easily get anywhere from 40% to 45% of the vote without trying. It would not surprise me at all if he gets close to 50%. That being said, as for the illegal immigration question, 75% is very clearly shows that the governor has a mandate on the issue and is seen as being on the right side by most voters, regardless of party affiliation. Yet again, by their lame attempt at spinning what is supposed to be “news” and not their own opinion, the Projo shows everyone how out of touch they are. The only thing that gives me solace, is that most of the reporters pulling this crap now, will be unemployed in a few years when the paper starts dumping them overboard in order to try to stay afloat financially. The spin continues today. The ProJo is now reduced to putting their favorite P-O-L-I-T-C-A-L H-A-C-K writer on the illegal alien beat. Check out Scott Mackay’s spin job today. Weird how the ProJo is spending an inordinate amount of time S-P-I-N-N-I-N-G the issue of illegal aliens as they try to tell us what a ‘non-issue’ it is. lol

Loved the governor on O’Reilly last night. So funny when the gov agreed with Bill about arresting Diva Cicilline. lol Funny stuff! Guess from Carcieri’s comments he’s going to call a summit on the issue of illegals. ?? is can Cicilline afford not to show up especially since this ‘non-issue’ is destroying Diva’s viability as a candidate for statewide office. Will be very interesting!
What’s interesting about the Scott Mackay piece is that it begins with the sentence “(in this summer of $4 gas discontent…you’d think RI politicians would have something better to do than pursue illegal immigration)” and then proceeds to list poll results that indicate about the same numbers for gas as illegal immigration.
When asked “what do you think is the biggest problem facing Rhode Island right now,” hardly any respondents mentioned illegal immigration. Thirty-three percent said the economy, 17 percent said the state budget, 6 percent mentioned gas prices, 8 percent listed government corruption, 6 percent said taxes, 5 percent said education and 4 percent said illegal immigration”
