A Home Overseas?

Conservatives sometimes lament that, unlike liberals, they lack for countries to which to move — or at least to threaten to move — when they lose elections. Judging purely from its president’s attitude, it looks like the Czech Republic might be headed in the right direction:

When it comes to the climate, “there are competing theories. I’m very sorry that some people, like Al Gore, are not ready to listen to the competing theories. I do listen to them.”
Klaus has published a book called “Blue Planet in Green Shackles: What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom?” Klaus told us that the answer is freedom — freedom is endangered — adding, “I imagine National Review would understand what I mean.” I replied, “Actually, there are differing views about global warming at National Review.
Another journalist present said, “What freedom do you mean? What freedom is endangered?” Klaus pointed to her and said, “Yours, mine, [turning to the World Economic Forum representative] the moderator’s. The freedom of publications like National Review.”
A different journalist, with high-pitched indignation, said, “Are you saying that Al Gore is threatening freedom?” Klaus answered, “More or less. Environmentalism and the global-warming alarmism are challenging our freedom; Al Gore is an important person in this movement.”

I would think any Islamic fundamentalist theocracy would do. After all, they’re down with the social conservatism – think bin Laden would tolerate gay marriage for one second? Granted, the climate could be an issue.
Failing that, there’s always Alabama, Utah and Alaska. They’re in America, but I question if their leaders really give a damn about the Constitution.

Not just the Czechs. Everwhere from Sweden (yes Sweden) to Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland and many more have seen rightist anti-immigrant governments swept into power.
England will soon follow. The Tories are up 15% in the polls and just, incredibly, elected a London mayor for the first time in a century.

Touche, David. I have a brother-in-law who just moved there, and he’s a black helicopter guy.

I don’t buy into any theory which is apparently so weak on its merits that it can’t withstand criticism, such that mandating unquestioning fealty to that theory must be enforced with the academic equivalent of the sword. I think if scientists were truly free to say what’s on their minds, without fear of retribution by academia and governments (which can pull their funding), that we would see much more public dissent, presuming that the press would cover it. That being said, the dissent is definitely there.
As it happens, I believe in “climate change.” However, I just happen to believe that it is primarily, if not exclusively caused by natural forces (like the Sun). Anyone who knows history, even that of the recent past, knows that climate is not static, and that changes in climate are cyclical.
