Chafee Makes It Official

Richard C. Dujardin of the Projo reports…

Ending several weeks of “exploration” into whether he would run for the job, former U.S. Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee announced Tuesday night that he is an independent candidate for governor of Rhode Island.
Chafee put the news out on a Web site, www.chafeeforgovernor.com, as well as in an interview on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show.

Let him run. Maybe he’ll tire of it quickly. Seems a bit early though.
Funny thing, though I don’t know how related it is… I discovered that the website designer for Linc Chafee is Laura Mullen. She’s not exactly a household name, but she does have some involvement with the embarrassing “orange P” logo that Providence wants to use to promote its brand for some reason.

…the council chose Laura Mullen, whose Providence firm Pinpoint Studio has done a number of projects in the downtown, including promotional materials for the Downcity Improvement District, Shop Downcity and the Greater Kennedy Plaza Working Group.
Mullen then brought in designers from the Pawtucket-based collective Schwa Design, of which she is a member. The firm has been paid at least $30,000 to date for the work.
Josh Silverman, owner of Schwa Design, came up with the city’s P and using the orange color was suggested by North Star, the branding firm. “The foot or the serif at the bottom of the ‘P’ and the serif at the top of it suggest both looking back and going forward,” explained Silverman.

Perhaps Linc should get a brand? Maybe a big embroidered “L”. He can sew it on all his clothes. Think Laverne.

Nothing could get me to vote for Lancelot Linc, for Governor or anything else.

You could adopt a whole set of embroidered letters and symbols and then decide who would be required you consider to wear them. Anyone who disagrees or who is sub human. Convene a party rally and assign the letters or symbols. Then borrow the name of the place of the rally and name your new laws. I don’t think that that has ever been done before.

Somehow I don’t think that John McCain will be coming here to campaign for Linc.
Glad he doesn’t call himself a Republican any more.
He does have a shot at winning though. This is a state that serially reelects the corrupt and incompetent Democrat Party to run this state, so electing a silver spoon in his mouth buffoon with an exaggerated sense of entitlement is, relatively speaking, an improvement.
Also, there is precedent for Rhode Islanders embracing entitlee silver spoon in their mouthes buffoons. See, e.g., Sheldon Whitehouse and Patrick Kennedy.

If the GOP party chairman really wants to move the party forward, the first thing he needs to do is tell all State Central Committee members that if they’re even thinking about supporting this left-wing, conspiracy theorist, tax-adoring, committee-meeting-loving, tool-borrowing, monkey-supporting, polar-bear doting, Obama-loving, Bush-bashing, McCain-stabbing moron; they need to go the way of Chafee, Specter and Jeffords.
I campaigned for Chafee in one election (2000) and learned my lesson quickly. People who still haven’t learned what he’s made of, don’t deserve a place in the Republican Party.

All an all-out GOP attack on Chafee will do is get him more Democratic votes…including moderates who might otherwise have voted for Caprio.
Sometimes you just have to let your grudges go in politics.

The trouble is rhody – these people (the Chafee-lovers) are all about the politics, the who’s who and the cocktail parties… and NOTHING about fixing the State.
