And Let’s Not Forget the Mayor’s Prior Check Incident
Under my post about the new check situation involving the mayor, Tommy Cranston reminds us of the first, infamous check matter, this one also with the City of Providence triangulated in but starring both of the Cicilline brothers.

Yeah. Remind me: did that get paid back to the city?
Right.
Now, regardless of Attorney General Patrick Lynch’s helpful whitewash finding of no criminality in this matter (it’s amazing all of the wrong-doing he’s failed to see during his tenure; he’s kind of like a professional wrestling referee in that regard), isn’t this money still owed to the city?
Yup.
Would this state of affairs – the blithe non-repayment of these funds – be tolerated if the check had been tendered by anyone other than a family member of the mayor?
I didn’t think so.
And David Cicilline wants a political promotion?
You really are kidding me.
And even worse, the Mayor’s brother who handed over that $75,000 rubber check has a business in Providence. A food business. Don’t you need city permits and inspections to open a food business? Wouldn’t any sane municipality ask for the $75,000 before allowing the same person to open a business? Heck, don’t people go to jail for bad checkwriting?
Yes, last I checked there were quite a few people in Providence with delinquent tax bills. Heck, we have a hard enough time getting absentee landlords to mow their lawns or fix broken windows, much less to pay off their liens on delinquent taxes (note – I support proposals to be more aggressive in making sure these debts are repaid, for instance Taveras’ plan to use the Abandoned Property Act to put homes into receivership). The reality is “this state of affairs” would hardly merit notice if it weren’t for the connection to the mayor.
Plus, we see that this is more about partisan axe grinding than anything else with your smears about Lynch and his so-called “whitewash.” KPMG performed the audit which concluded there was
no evidence… to indicate that the mayor attempted to or actually unduly influenced actions in this matter.” You can ignore that if you like, but as a law enforcement officer, Lynch can’t. We don’t pay him to go snipe hunting.
To me, as a Providence resident, one of the really strange and disappointing things is that the Projo has given David Cicilline a free pass on almost all of the wrongdoing by him and his administration since day one. Why, I can only speculate. But as a major enabler of a truly awful public official (who in turn appointed numerous other awful administrators), the Projo cannot disappear fast enough as far as I am concerned. It’s also sad to see that Angel Tavares has sold out so completely to the Cicilline crowd.

The Projo kisses his ass for reasons that can only be guessed at.A building sale?A spinoff of their haterd for Buddy Cianci?His brother also got a HUGE discount on thousands in parking fines.He then said he’d continue parking when and where he wanted.Don’t pretend you’re for ethical government-you’re a real party hack.
The ProJo put Cicilline’s salary kerfluffle on Page 1. That’s pretty damaging to him – more so than anything Cianci’s said about him.
If I lived in Providence I’d vote for Taveras just to see Buddy’s head explode. The only thing worse than a gay mayor is a Hispanic one, right, Buddy?
Absent any evidence, we have to presume that he was uninvolved, exactly as the KPMG report concluded. Is there something I’m missing here?

He hired the investigative firm and then paid them more than the loss to the city.
I know they have a good reputation,but then,a lot of people do,and it isn’t always deserved.
Cicilline is a lying sleazebag.
I totally disagree with David Segal,but he’s an honest and straight spoken young guy.
The only dislike I have for him is his political philosophy.
He could use a little time at the bottom of the world and he might come out of it more educated.
Now we have people insinuating that if you don’t vote for Taveras,you’re anti-Hispanic or if you oppose Cicilline,you’re a homophobe.

I personally will NEVER vote for Cicilline(can’t anyhow)or any former/current associate of his for a real good reason-I don’t like lying scumbags or the people they hang with.
I guess not voting for a liberal professor/”community activist” is an example of anti-Black bias.
