The Not-So-Approachable Governor

An email from Terry Gorman, executive director of Rhode Islanders for Immigration Law Enforcement, inspired a new category title, on Anchor Rising, when he sent the following email:

Just received a call from Anita, a senior staff person on the Chafee transition team and she related to me that without hearing from the source the Governor elect fully understands RIILE’S position on Gov. Carcieri’s Executive order and that the Governor elect had already conducted all the meetings he would with constituents on matters such as these at this time. RIILE put in three phone requests and many requests via Talk Radio for meetings with the Governor elect to explain RIILE’S side of the Illegal Immigration issue to enable Mr. Chafee to at least make an informed decision before rescinding the Executive Order. We thank them for considering our request for a meeting and appreciate the courtesy of a return call. However, RIILE feels that Mr.Chafee has been totally MISINFORMED by the Illegal Alien advocates and like thinking Union officials on his transition team. RIILE fails to see how a rational decision can be made by our State’s highest ranking elected official without at least knowing both sides of any issue, especially one that so adversely affects the fragile economy our fine State. This reluctance to weigh both sides of an issue does not bode well for the next four years of governance in Rhode Island.

In like fashion to National Organization for Marriage Rhode Island Director Chris Plante, Mr. Gorman has found that our incoming governor has already granted constituents all of the hearings they’re going to get, and he’s not even in office, yet. One begins to wonder whether Mr. Chafee is disinclined to open his door to too many folks with whom he disagrees out of fear that they’ll be able to determine whether he operates by means of strings or a hand up the back of his shirt.

Why is this so hard for Chafee to even give these people 5 minutes. Have 50 of them all lined up for four hours some morning. Tell them all to be there at 7:00, 7:05, 7:10…
Give them their five minutes, sit and nod at them and usher them out for the next one. At least then they can’t say they didn’t get a meeting with him. Then he can still go on and do whatever he wants, but he won’t have the Terry Gormans running around saying they couldn’t even get a meeting. Isn’t that just politics 101?

How can this be?? Chafee keeps telling us he’s a uniter and not a divider.
A message to Terry Gorman. Terry, please hold a RIILE membership dinner on an annual basis and invite the Governor to attend every year
Expose wimpy Linky for the disingenuous fraud that he is. I would also encourage other groups such as the National Organization for Marriage to do the same. Expose Mr. Uniter as the bigotted divider he genuinely is.

Maybe Phil,OTL,sammy,David S,and Russ should get the same time here the incoming Governor plans to allot to those who disagree with him.
Personally,I don’t know why Terry is making the effort-he’s dealing with an incompetent, inbred, bumbling fool who’s main goal in life seems to be pandering to ethnic pimps and union hoodlums like the NEA crowd.
I wouldn’t ever want to speak with Chafee-F**k him where he breathes.

Stormy weather kept me on the shore today but didn’t keep Tim from taking the bait.
In record time too. Laughing on the outside but…

Joe
Thanks for placing me in such good company. You must not get so RIILED up. You did have a chance to vote in November, did you not? Chaffee said he would reverse the Governor’s executive order in a debate before the election. Acting on that promise is I suppose a bit of a surprise given the track record of politicians keeping campaign promises, but there you have it. Better luck next time. I must tell you though that I do not think much of your insulting foul language directed at someone you have not met and I mean Gov. Elect Chaffee. I had an occasion to briefly meet Governor Carcieri and I did so with the manners I was taught as I child and that I taught my children.

I don’t need first amendment limitations from an anonymous poster.
I see no reason to be nice about being represented by a nincompoop.I can insult “gov.”Chafee and I sure don’t want to meet him.
RECALL.
I am sure the percentage of people supporting recission of the executive order is about the same as is responsible for electing this turd-about a third.

Actually you’re not to be represented but governed by as you say a “nincompoop”. It’s a good thing that you are far removed from doing the law enforcement job that you claim you did many years ago. I think they must now screen out applicants that exhibit the type of anger and loss of emotional control you show here.

I don’t “claim” to have done anything.Since unlike you,I use my real identity it’s easy enough to verify.
Interestingly I never had a complaint of any sort of abuse in over twenty years on the street-I had a professional persona at work-it was not a matter of personal interaction.
For all I know,if you really are a quahogger, maybe you take shellfish from contaminated waters.Who’s to know?
The fact that I get angry is my right-in your perverted world view only leftist scum have a right to be pissed off.
Anyway, who the f**k are you to tell me about anger? You exhibit hatred and anger in most of your posts here.have you ever been arrested for domestic assault?
I never had the police to my house over such an issue.Maybe you have. It’s not nice to have accusations without evidence thrown at you,is it?
I think we have no need for further discussion. And I will never accept that POS Chafee as someone who can govern-he might be there, but he has no mandate.

Chafee didn’t get a “mandate,” but he got more votes than the other candidates. I believe that still means something.
Sounds like some people believe that if Caprio or Robitaille had won with 36 percent, THAT would’ve been a mandate. Go figure.

bella-I’m not saying that Langevin and Cicilline didn’t get mandates, although I didn’t support the fromer and truly despise the latter. Both got over 50% of the vote,ao I can accept that.
I think that when a candidate gets less than 45% of the vote there should be a runoff betwen the top two.
Why 45%?Because Federal matching funds kick in at 5%,which seems to indicate what Congress considered the threshold for a meaningful candidacy. It’s probably the best reference we have on that.
Chafee’s numbers never changed.Caprio’s went down and Robitaille’s went up.

The Not-So-Approachable Governor. Yeah, I quess that’s true for some of the people who have had the present governor’s ear. They were way out of the mainstream so why should they expect any hearing? Just because they had access with the present governor? Elections matter. I am so glad to be done with a governor that would elevate the likes of John Depetro and Buddy Cianci.

So David S,when Chafee cuts a tofu fart, just inhale deeply and enjoy-it’s probably a nice break from the bong.

Tim I saw the time your last comment was posted and I thought I would describe to you where I was and what I was doing and maybe your strange comment can be considered again. At 8:18 AM Wednesday Dec. 15th I could be found on my 24′ shellfishing boat at the first DEM management opening of what is referred to as “High Banks Management Area”. This appox. 20 acre piece of Narragansett Bay is located off the Eastern part of North Kingston. Scalabrini nursing home and the Quidnessett country club are in that area. The area at High Banks is opened to shellfishing from 8AM to noon Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after Dec. 15th. So at 8:18AM I was standing in a position at midships facing the aforementioned bayfront of NK as a steady 15 knot wind was blowing from the west and northwest. The tide was low and about to start to come in. I had arrived from my home port about 15 minutes away and had set up the aluminum poles and fitted on the end of the roughly 45 feet of pole a stainless 24” rake with 4″ teeth. Special care was needed this morning as the low temps cause ice to form instantly on wet metal surfaces. The poles which telescope into each other can come apart after they appear to be tightly clamped because of the ice. Fortunately I had filled my 20 pound propane tank with a small heater attached to thaw my hands during this initial work. So at 8:18AM I was drifting my boat and of course my rake through a muddy bottom catching transplanted quahogs. The limit is three bushels and I reached that at 11:00AM. The cold temps demanded special care of the quahogs too. I kept all the… Read more »
