Charter School Legislation Introduced to the Rhode Island House

Representative Paul Crowley (D-Newport) has introduced legislation lifting Rhode Island’s moratorium on the establishment of new charter schools (House bill 6850). If the moratorium is not lifted, no new charter school can open in Rhode Island until the 2008-2009 school year.

Jim is correct. Charter Schools are a great alternative to our failing public schools, especially for children in traditionally poor school districts. I’m sure the union controlled legislature will fight this because of the strength of the teacher’s union. Anyone interested in this topic should check out http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Stossel/story?id=1500338. Competition in schools is GOOD people.
Hopefully RI will see the light, to improve schools, we have to break the destructive power of the teacher’s unions.
