Chafee Campaign Responds to National Review Endorsement of Laffey
Senator Lincoln Chafee’s campaign responds on National Review Online to the National Review’s endorsement of Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey’s campaign to replace Chafee, as reported earlier by Marc.
That is all he can think of to justify Lincoln Chaffee as a Republican? That he is fiscally responsible. I don’t know if he is, or if he isn’t but it’s pretty much irrelevant if we are talking about a Republican majority supporting the President’s agenda. He doesn’t support any of it. A Republican majority with Chaffee can’t be effective. Chaffee marginalizes everything we stand for.
Lang’s limp defense (not very well disguised as an attack) has the same garbage we have all discussed numerous times on this and other blogs for months.
Trying to convince Cranstonians of these lies is folly, while using them to pollute the broader national NRO audience should push people to do some research (www.electlaffey.com). Those who take the time to look into this slander will see it just as that.
Lang and his boss need to start the process of responding to the Laffey campaign’s desire to put on a series of debates so the two men can face off publicly on all the issues. Taricani, Mulligan, Rappleye, Hummel, MacKay… where are you?
As I predicted months ago, Chafee, Lang, and the NRSC will stave this inevitable meeting off as long as they can. I doubt it, but sooner or later the clamber from the voters and the press could make it happen.

It’s hard to believe the Chafee team even reads National Review! I figured they were more in tune with the Air America crowd. Look, this is really simple…

That is all we really need to know about this lame “not conservative enough” attack by Chafee.
Do you notice that Chafee never puts forth HIS conservative credentials? How could you, what is he going to say, “I’m a conservative because I oppose tax cuts, I oppose smaller government and I oppose a strong foreign policy to protect us”. Yeah, that doesn’t really wash.
Actually, I found Lang’s letter entirely convincing. Why the hell would I want to vote for an egomaniacal hack who used taxpayer dollars to buy an SUV? What a joke. It’s people like the posters on this blog that are wrecking the proud and storied history of the party of Lincoln. When Laffey loses in a landslide I will laugh in your face.
Proud and storied history…? He’s been in office one term as Senator. Lets get these debates going so that we the voters can decide for ourselves, rather than allow the professional campaigners to make our minds up.
Yeah “Nick”, oh yes, I’m swayed by a single letter. Seems to me that your mind was made up well before it was written. You aren’t fooling anyone here.
Nick, you Chafeeistas are such fools. You have been repeating the same contorted slander since September. Everything you try to sling at Laffey comes right back at you in the form of more evidence of the Mayor’s leadership and effectiveness. The SUV lease is over a 50% savings for the city compared to the boat the former Mayor had blown $600/month on. When is someone from Chafee campaign going to present convincing conservative credentials. Instead of attacking Laffey, what can you say that is good about the job Sen. Chafee is doing in the U.S. Senate? He may have a few accomplishments that would make many a Democrat proud, but that trash won’t sell here.
This topic has its own section. By the way…why don’t you huys grow up!
