Let the Shrieking Commence…

Governor Carcieri said today he supports abolishing the state income tax, which could drastically reduce tax revenue just as Rhode Island’s state government faces large budget deficits.
Carcieri said this morning during an appearance on WPRO-AM that he would “love” to find a way to eliminate Rhode Island’s income tax, which provides about a third of state revenue. He said the state should tax people on what they spend, not on what they earn.

The private sector routinely engages in benchmarking – what are competitors doing, and what is “best in class” – and then works to meet or exceed “best in class.”
We need merely look to New Hampshire to benchmark – no sales or income tax. Better economy, better roads, better schools.
A no-brainer for Rhode Island. The bottom line issue becomes “will we do what’s best for the government unions and poverty industry, or what’s best for the present and future citizens of Rhode Island?”
We know that the Democrats will side with the government unions and poverty industry. For the average citizen, our only hope is to vote Republican or third party or independent – anything but Democrat.

So, we should eliminate the income tax, to allow some more people to enter the ranks of the rich at the top, and then shut the door on the vast majority at the bottom, by refusing to pay for their health care, their education, and refusing to provide jobs for them?
That will be the net effect of the governors proposal, and it’s quasi-fascist and anti-democratic to the core.
