Tea Parties and Federalist 33
Here’s a little Federalist 33 (scholars believe that Alexander Hamilton was the author) to remind us that, even before the Constitution of the United States of America had been ratified, our Founders were aware that activities like tea parties would be necessary from time to time to keep the government functioning in service of the people…
If the federal government should overpass the just bounds of its authority and make a tyrannical use of its powers, the people, whose creature it is, must appeal to the standard they have formed, and take such measures to redress the injury done to the Constitution as the exigency may suggest and prudence justify.Rhode Island’s tax-day tea party is scheduled for April 15, 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the Rhode Island State House.
Didn’t Thomas Jefferson also say that he believed government should be thrown out and restarted from scratch every 200 years or so? We’re about 35 years behind on that.
