Fox Takes Over the House
Until the Kennedy announcement, the big political news was that Rep. Gordon Fox is now Speaker of the Rhode Island House.
In his first speech as House speaker, Fox said “Change is absolutely necessary. We cannot continue [to conduct] business as usual. We must think anew and act anew.”
With the state facing a massive deficit and one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, he promised his highest priorities would be to “get Rhode Islanders back to work,” by exploring tax credits for small businesses that create jobs. He pledged action on a “fair and equitable” education-funding formula this year.
“Bolstering our economy, creating jobs … and enacting a responsible and balanced budget will be our priorities for this session,” he said. But “we must be mindful that it is important to restore the public trust in this institution, and indeed, the public trust in their elected officials,” said Fox, urging quick action on legislation he introduced in recent days to “allow the voters to restore the authority and power of the Rhode Island Ethics Commission this November.”
So, Fox has gone from just being in the House to leading it. Of course, as majority leader, he’s been pretty much doing that already. Which should put his call for “change” and other promises into perspective.
Mr. Change Agent (lol) is the proud owner of the largest ethics fine in Rhode Island history.
You just can’t make this stuff up!
Fox will be a disaster for RI just like Obama is for the nation. Loony libs diminish everything they touch.
“We must think anew and act anew.”…How this for anew…instead of going on recess, how about you and your lemmings bunker down at the state house (and buy your own steaks dinners) and fix the economic problems that you’ve caused. RI is crumbling and the House is a day late and $151 million short.
Gordon Fox is the first Black speaker;the first openly gay speaker;but not, however the first ehically challenged speaker.Just more of the same BS.
Given that Fox was part of a leadership team that pushed forth the tax cut for the rich and has enriched himself at the lobbyists’ trough, I don’t consider him liberal.
Yep, he’s gay. So was Roy Cohn.
Cohn never admitted it-he was outed by AIDS
BTW rhody-I know quite a few people who are gay,Black,Hispanic, even Jewish, who are also conservative-they don’t fit your ignorant little “progressive” template. And I’m not referring to despicable neocons like Kristol,or Perle,or Wolfowitz here.
Gordon Fox is not black. Hilarious that he’s allowed to claim such an obvious falsehood.
There he goes again…anybody who disagrees with His Holiness is ignorant.
But then again, you know where disagreeing with Joe leads to…
Back on topic…Fox is black in the same way Tiger Woods and Dwayne Johnson are. Oversimplification.
rhody-actually most people who disagree with me here are not ignorant, just wrong in my opinion. You,on the other hand, are an ignorant twerp.I think you make it very easy to have no respect whatever for you or your pissant opinions.Sh*tmop.
Rhody

Joe Berstein
Did Rhody EVER insult you ???

Jeff, you have to understand that one cannot disagree with Joe without a response that includes insults, which eventually turn into threats of lawsuits, etc.
Having learned that one need no longer even needs to insult Joe to draw his ire, I simply take whatever he says to me with the largest jar of salt I can find.
Jeff-he certainly has.Worse,he’s made wholly untrue statements about me without using his real name.I always use my real name because I like to take responsibility for anything I say or do. Furthermore,as far as not being able to comment without insulting people-I think if you actually look at what I say vis a vis most people I disagree with,I don’t use ad hominem attacks at all.Telling OTL he subscribes to a failed philosophy isn’t a personal insult-you seem to have your mind set as to what it is I do and see what you want to.I can’t help thaat and I don’t really care in any event. I absolutely use ad hominem attacks and insults against public figures, both in and out of political office. They use their positions to force their personal opinions on us and I think anything is fair in that arena. I can’t sue Rhody- I don’t know who he is.Actually I’ve never sued anyone.I would repeat anything I’ve said here to his face, though. You’re recently here,so maybe you missed Rhody’s allegations here and on another blog that I somehow “threatened” people. It was a bald faced lie.If you’re okay with that kind of behavior, then so be it. I’ve gone back and forth with OTL,Russ, and Phil numerous times here, and on occasion I’ve bumped heads with other people on the right because I’m not in lockstep with anyone. I don’t know why I’m taking the time to answer you,but I think you should read more of my comments and see how many times I actually insult another blogger. BTW I have come in for some pretty nasty remarks here and on Kmareka and RIF.The Providence Daily Dose was another venue where I was routinely called names, always by creeps with aliases. I have a thick skin, probably because I spent a total… Read more »
rhody sez…”Back on topic…Fox is black in the same way Tiger Woods and Dwayne Johnson are. Oversimplification.”
Sorry rhody but Gordon Fox is not black. Tiger Woods is black. Dwayne Johnson is black. Gordon Fox is not black. He may have Cape Verdean (colonized by the Portuguese) heritage in the mix but he’s not black.
Just look at him!
Fox is no different than a lilly white person whose heritage is South African – can claim themselves as African American but they’re not “black”.
The societal illness that is racial politics allows Fox to claim minority status even though he’s a white guy with a Cape Verdean mother and an Irish father.
Black, white, blue or green, Fox’s corporate ties concern me. People who automatically equate gay with liberal ignore them.
Jeff, Joe’s insults and attacks on others can be found elsewhere. His spiel comes from his belief that I am a bigger menace to society than the REAL bad guys he’s put behind bars. Sadly for him, my record’s clean.
With that, I’m moving along. I’ve nothing more to say on this thread.
Tim-you get it.Having some Black background doesn’t make one Black. You gotta at least look the part.Being Black was a terrible ordeal for so many people in this country for so many years that using it for political advantage when in everyday life no one would tend to assume you were Black is pretty nasty.
My older granddaughter is part Black, but no one would doubt it for a second looking at her.Good.
My younger granddaughter is almost as mixed, but not including Black. However, does having a Jewish(by birth) grandparent make her a Jew?
Maybe by the Nazis’ standards, but probably not anyone else’s.
