Clarifying a Point on Immigration
In my conversation with Matt last night about the Arizona immigration law court decision, I mentioned that I had come across an interesting point: that the Federal lawsuit against Arizona shows that comprehensive immigration reform probably won’t work because the enforcement provisions of any such plan will be litigated (and thus implementation delayed) while the other aspects are enacted. Mark Krikorian is the one who posted about this and ascribed the point to Steve Camarota:
Any employer verification system will be challenged in court. So will any efforts to coordinate immigration enforcement with local police. Immigration lawyers also will fight every effort to detain more of their clients. Building new fencing and dealing with environmental and property rights issues at the border will involve legal battles. While in time these things almost certainly will pass legal muster, court injunctions and proceedings will hold up enforcement for years.
Can’t we just use SDI to protect our borders?
I can just picture it now, someone running across the border and like the scene out of Real Genius, a laser shoots down from the sky and the offender is dust.
I think a Star Wars program on the border will alleviate the government from being overburden.
Or, get every arm Arizonan to spend a day or two and face south. Any noise heard or motion seen will result in a hellstorm of fire.
End of border problems.
Repeat if necessary.
This is what happened in 1986.No real enhanced enforcement in the interior of the US;insipid and spineless employer sanctions;the totally useless I-9 system for job applicants instead of verification;massive amnesty with a confidentiality system that US citizens wouldn’t get in similar circumstances-IOW a total clusterf**k.
It just doesn’t look like a soluble problem and I’m frankly sick of it.
The liberals aren’t on the level here-they think they’ll just be luring Hispanics into their ranks.That’s a patronizing attitude. Wait’ll they find out how many Hispanics are socially conservative.Many Central Americans are Pentecostals and Asembly of God followers.I wonder how that will interface with abortion rights and gay marriage?
And we’re just talking about Hispanics-you want conservative-try African immigrants.
This was a back burner issue for a while-now it’s big again.
The level of bad information being disseminated to the public,mainly,but not exclusively by the left is disgusting.
I don’t think this country can afford an era of ethnic strife.
Perhaps the only way to deal with this is by a Constitutional amendment-that can’t be challenged in court and it requires massive public input,unlike sleazy politicians operating the political equivalent of a fish market.

This morning, from a cave somewhere in Pakistan , the Taliban Minister of Migration, Mohammed Omar, warned the United States that if Arizona ‘s Immigration Law is not repealed, Taliban authorities intend to cut off America ‘s supply of Convenience Store Managers and possibly Motel 6 & Super 8 Managers. And, if this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by DELL and AOL Customer Service Reps.
Finally, if all else fails, they have threatened to send us no more candidates for President of the United States, or governor of Louisiana and Virginia
Sammy-the motel people and the service reps are almost all Hindu-not Al Qaeda’s favorite folks.

Phil-Thanks-I was out of town visiting family,and I was also trying to make peoples’ lives miserable at RIF.Their sign in procedure is about as reliable as the RIPTA buses on snowy Sundays.

Absolutely! Can you just imagine someone trying to sneak across at night and then, from out of the shadows, Darth Vader comes at them with his light saber? Man, I’m scared just thinking about it!
We could even use Chewbacca and other Wookiees to sniff out the luggage that comes through all the airports and rail lines.
Seriously, who is thinking about what? We have 10% unemployment and we have 15 million illegals.
I understand that the economic situation here is driving many of them back to Mexico.
I think I have mentioned that I have an Indian couple as tenants, they are both software engineers. The wife simply cannot get a job because they do enforce the laws at that level. The employer has to prove that there is no American qualified and willing to take the job.
