Everyone Loves a Winner (Except Mainstream Media Assignment Editors, Apparently)

Today, the Projo is running its second Scott MacKay story in three days on the dismal state of the Northeast GOP. Today’s story is focused on Rhode Island; Sunday’s story was about the Northeast in general. Neither story breaks much new ground, although today’s does confirm that Patricia Morgan is seeking another term as Rhode Island’s State GOP Chairwoman…

As their election rout of two weeks ago sinks in, Rhode Island Republican leaders are trying to figure out how to rebound at a time when their state party chairwoman, Patricia Morgan of West Warwick, says she would like to be reappointed to the post she has held for the past four years.
It is worth noting that the party getting all of the media attention is the one most observers would deem the “irrelevant” one. When are the stories about what the Democratic party plans to do with its legislative mandate going to appear? Everyone loves a winner, apparently, except the assignment editors of the mainstream media.
Could the lack of interest in the majority party be because they have no plans to address any problem nor change anything at all (except maybe to increase the state subsidization of failing urban governance)?

As a card carrying member of the RIGOP, where do I go to vote for “Anybody But Pat”? She was an utter embarassment on Yorke’s show the other night.

If I recall, one definition of the word “insanity” is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result. Are they freakin’ nuts?
In other words, we need a uniter, not a divider. I’m don’t going to dump on Pat, because she did okay as chair for the last four years, but we just need new blood. We also don’t just need a new chair, we need a whole new team with a whole new focus, such as winning at the local levels, too. I don’t care so much about the Chafee/Laffey/Carcieri dynamic, as just having a leader willing to listen to others in the party, and whom can hold their own against the Democrats. We also need someone with the ability to raise a lot of money for the 2008 election cycle, so that we can at least be competitive with the other side. It’s about leadership.

If the RIGOP were a company it would be in receivership. In such a case, a total overhall of management and strategy would be ordered, or it would be shut down and the assets sold.
Anyone who suggests that “more of the same” is somehow a viable strategy for change is someone who has no intention of changing anything.

I can’t name any names right now (as I’ve sworn one of those blood oaths of secrecy), because it’s still very early. However, to my knowledge there are around 6 people seriously considering running for chair in the spring, so there’s no excuse to have to “settle” for any particular person. Most of them are known within state GOP circles, and presumably will be even more well-known once they start publicizing themselves. I expect that number to dwindle to around 2 or 3, but I feel comfortable in predicting a very competitive race, not only for chair, but for the other positions, as well.
