Dennigan Resigns
The AP is reporting that State Representative Elizabeth Dennigan (D – East Providence/Pawtucket) has resigned her (now former) state legislative seat, in order to devote more time to her Second District Congressional campaign against incumbent Democrat James Langevin. Will Ricci at the Ocean State Republican is quoting a source saying that a special election will be held to fill the seat in the next 70 – 90 days, meaning it is likely to occur just before Christmas…
According to a well-informed source, the Special Election should occur within the next 70 to 90 days, with a primary, if necessary, to occur about 5 weeks prior. This would place the special election in mid to late December, with a primary in early to mid November.Apparently, Rep. Dennigan doesn’t think anything worth voting on will be occurring in the special state legislative session scheduled for the end of October.

Or she believes that every vote will be something like 67-7, so why bother?

The REAL ISSUE should be: Technically she need not resign in the first place!
She could have held her state seat and STILL ran for U.S. House in the other district! It could have saved money for the special election!
The article in The Providence Journal about her resignation omitted these facts!
