Winners are Democrats. Troubled Souls are Republicans. Even When They’re the Same Person.
The Projo news department got Coventry Town Councilman Anthony Colaluca’s party correct when he won his 2006 election…
In [Coventry Town Council District 2], incumbent Republican Greg Laboissonniere was ousted by a political neophyte, Democrat Anthony Colaluca, 23, by a close margin,…but skipped over any fact-checking or consulting of their own archives when reporting on his recent encounter with the law (h/t Scott “I am the Duck” Duckworth)…
Town Councilman Anthony Colaluca was charged with driving while intoxicated after he was stopped on Arnold Road near New London Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, the police said…This was Coventry, not East Greenwich. It doesn’t make sense that a reporter or an editor would guess “Republican” when preparing a story about a town official whose party affiliation they didn’t know — unless there was some kind of bias at work.
Colaluca, a Republican, was elected to the District 2 seat on the Town Council last November. Efforts to reach him for comment yesterday were unsuccessful.
An error such as this by the Journal, smearing the GOP without cause when the opportunity presents itself, does not surprise me in the least.
The sad part is that the connection between “republican” and a negative incident was made in Coventry and went unchallenged, reaffirming for many of the town’s voters that they are doing the right thing when they vote for a democrat.
Nobody likes a good slam of the ProJo more than I do, but let’s not see it as political bias everywhere.
The most significant bias that most of these reporters have is a bias towards laziness. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve observed errors (usually pretty insignificant ones) where the ProJo reporter obviously had not read his or her own story from the past few days, let alone check the archives on the subject.
If they make such a mistake it’s fun to call them on it; not that it’s worth much, but they will almost always print a correction.
In a small box.
Hidden somewhere in the inside pages.
‘Cuz they care so much about accuracy.
The Projo is an awful newspaper. They’re writers are sloppy and copy editors are non-existent. Bill Lynch should demaned a higher quality product from his minions.
Hi!
The local issue in my region is the sentencing of Richard Brown, husband of former Chariho Regional School Committee Chair Stephanie Brown concerning federal charges in Connecticut.
Stephanie is a Democrat while I recall her husband was /is a Republican?Ironically according to press accounts the fraud involved school districts.Mrs. Brown had her name on corporations papers but was NOT charged in the case.
The Westerly Sun http://www.thewesterlysun.com and The Providence Journal http://www.projo.com have covered it and I assume the New London Day http://www.theday.com ,has and other newspapers.
New London,Connecticut;school system was one of the districts affected by this criminal activity.
Mrs.Brown husband has NOT been involved with Hopkinton Republicans even though he may have been a registered one.He loses his voting rights now anyway.
Regards,
Scott
Well Tim,
If you are accusing someone of being sloppy writers, you probably want to make sure to chose correctly between “their” and “they’re.”
Re: Colaluca and Franks comment that “it went unchallenged”. Your right it did, Just like when the Council President Pomfret was arested for beating his wife, and councilman Hyde fell off the wagon and tried to kill himself and spent a month in butler hospital.
Those are great reasons to vote democrat in coventry
Coventry Democratic Chairman Kevin McGee Said this after the 06 election dem sweep”
“It is a buoy to Democratic leadership and that the people are satisfied with the quality of leadership.”
I guess they are happy with accused wife beaters, and drunks
The Iceman didnt have alot to say either. Someone said he was on vacation at the Grand Buffet and could not speak with a mouthful.

Just for the record, Hyde had a breakdown after Coventrys finest searched him at the November “swearing in seremony”. Gee, I feel safer. Not! The guy drinks unleaded. High blood preasure? Wonder why.
