Introducing The Ocean State Republican
Give a warm welcome to the Rhode Island Republican Assembly‘s new entry into the local blogosphere, The Ocean State Republican (also accessible through the web address www.theOSR.com).

The OSR is the new politically-focused, conservative activist-oriented blog, primarily sponsored by the Rhode Island Republican Assembly, “The Republican Wing of the Republican Party”….The OSR’s impressive list of contributors (including some names you may recognize from Anchor Rising’s comments section!) can be viewed here.
As all good Rhode Island Republicans “in the know” know, The Ocean State Republican was the former moniker of a local electronic newsletter — which featured local political news and commentary from a Republican point of view — that was faithfully sent out by e-mail each month for a number of years, as a regular supplement to the Rhode Island Republican Update.
For reasons still known only to Divine Providence, The Ocean State Republican mysteriously disappeared in late 2003 … but it did not die! The OSR has been biding its time … integrating and adapting to emerging technologies … assimilating new ideas and concepts … refining its purpose and message … steadily regaining its strength … waiting for just the right time to awaken from its long slumber. The OSR has returned! (… and not a moment too soon!)

Of course, thank you for the plug on the new blog. I just came back from one of our vast right wing conspiracy meetings that ended about an hour ago (after waiting in traffic on the new Iway … don’t get me started). Now, I have to go back out the door again to make some money. Anyway, I’ll post in more detail later on about our project objectives.

Monique, Don’t think of it so much as “competition”; think of it more as being “complementary”! You know we appreciate the good work that Anchor Rising does. The best analogy that I could probably think of regarding the intent of The Ocean State Republican, is that we would like it to be something like RI Future was (before they messed it up with that new format), but in a parallel right-wing universe, focusing mainly on the tangible aspects of politics; with a philosophical approach very similar to that of Anchor Rising. Probably the only difference that I can see between the two blogs, besides your significant head start and stellar reputation, would be a matter of “point of view.” Although we are all principled conservatives, nearly everyone involved with The OSR project is involved in some level — whether it be local or state — in Republican Party politics (of course, YOU are, but you’re kind of the exception, right?). I would hate to refer to any of us as “insiders,” as that has a negative connotation, esp. in RI. In designing the site, I was trying to focus on aesthetics and consistency, in order to give it a certain feel (branding). As it happens, I’ve always liked conspiracies and conspiring (by the way, we missed you and Andrew this morning), so that’s kind of where that whole idea came from. One of the reasons that it took so long to get it to a satisfactory enough level to be able to roll it out publicly, was that I was completely unfamiliar with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) beforehand, so I had a lot to learn.
