More Anti-Palin Pack Journalism
There are times when I’m not sure if the immortal words of Krusty the Klown…
I’m gonna need a shoebox full of blow to get through this dreck,…apply more appropriately to the product of the left-blogosphere, or to that of the mainstream media. Then again, at the moment, they’re pretty much indistinguishable, so maybe there’s no point in asking.
Left-blogger Andrew Sullivan is leading readers to this item posted on what I think is supposed to be a down-the-middle blog hosted by the Washington Post…
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.Slashed funding. The mean, hypocritical Republican slashed funding…except…
After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation — “SP” — Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million.
…that if you actually bother to examine the information that Alaska’s Covenant House makes available about its operations, it’s obviously not true. Start with the financials. In 2007, Covenant House reported $1.3 million dollars in “grant income”. In 2006, the figure was $1.2 million. So why, all of the sudden, did Covenant House seem to need 4 times that amount, $5 million or so in state money?
The answer is that Covenant House is expanding. The plans are described in the 2009 Alaska capital budget proposal…
State funding will assist Covenant House to relocate, and construct a new Crisis Center for Covenant House in downtown Anchorage.$22 million is needed to complete the expansion. Covenant House asked the Alaska legislature to provide $10 million, the legislature answered with $5 million in the 2009 budget. Governor Palin cut the figure back to $3.9 million — for this year. This likely doesn’t stop the expansion; Covenant House will either have to get more from the state in a future year and/or increase the amount from private donations to make it happen. But no existing program that helps teenage mothers or the children of teenage mothers has been affected by this budget decision, and calling a one-time infusion of $3.9 million added by the state on top of normal operating expenses a “cut” only makes sense if you can’t do math, if you don’t understand the difference between a capital outlay and an operating outlay, or if you hate Republicans.
Sorry Washington Post, you don’t get your scoop. You’ll have to find some other backdoor way to try to legitimize bringing Sarah Palin’s daughter into your reporting.
The press and the left wing bloggers are so eager to trash this woman that she must worry them.Andrea Mitchell can’t even partially conceal her partisanship anymore-listening to her is like reading an article by Karen Lee Ziner for a balanced look at immigration.I wouldn’t mind having Mitchell’s nose full of nickels though.
The Wall Street Journal sums up the left’s obsession with Gov. Palin nicely:
“If Sarah Palin succeeds as a national candidate, she could help John McCain proceed to a reform Presidency. Even if he loses while she does well, she could emerge as a major figure in GOP politics for years to come. This is why the media and political classes are so eager to discredit her. They can’t let it happen.“
The left wing hate machine is exposing themselves for just what they are – a bunch of bigoted, sexist hypocrites. It’s so easy to see just what they despise about Sarah Palin – she is the typical, normal, sacrificing American woman that has gotten ahead through hard work, determinaton and perseverance. And they hate her for it. She hasn’t been brought up looking for handouts, and sucking off the public, showing that, yes, you can make it through life if you are so determined. She understands clearly that people have responsibilities, not rights. And she lives by it, unlike the “Do as I say, not as I do” left wing trash. If she was a divorced lesbian on welfare, who pushed her daughter to have an abortion, the left-wing hate machine would be so enamored with her.
But no, she is your normal everyday American hero that the “tolerant and progressive liberals” want to tear down, because she understandably exposes their disgusting agenda for the big fat lie that it is, and makes them feel so inferior and such a failure. They should feel that way.
I just want to know if Sarah Palin is telling the truth about the baby who was born in April 2008 to someone in her family. Is it her or her daughter? Does it matter if her daughter had a baby at the age of 15 or 25, no, what does matter is if the truth being told?
So Governor Palin signed a 300% increase in their budget and this is characterized as a slash? That’s not spin, that’s a flat-out lie.
The media attacks on Gov Palin have become so two-faced and non-factual that it’s comical.
So the right wing has been attacking Obama for the last while or so and now the left wing is attacking Palin. Hmm, if you’re John McCain, doesn’t this make you smile just a bit? This tells me that half the people don’t like the D’s presidential candidate, the other half doesn’t like the R’s VICE presidential candidate. But when everyone walks into the voting booth, what will they see?
OBAMA
McCAIN
And which one have they heard all the problems with? Not McCain.
People don’t vote for Vice Presidents. With the way the left has gone after Palin, they must have no trouble with McCain. So if that’s the worst they can do, McCain must be doing alright.
Joanne,
Is there no level that you wacko liberals won’t sink to? Talk about hate mongering, what’s next on the liberal hit list against Gov. Palin. Well, at least it takes the hate away from McCain for a little while. She’s a big girl and will take you wacko liberals down.
Last night Greta Van Susteren, girl detective, who I don’t even think is supporting Obama, had the gall to pressure Lynn Swan, who is a conservative Republican unfortunately defeated by the used car salesman Rendell, why he a a black man, wasn’t for Obama-typical elitist patronizing-he gave a very good answer about Obama being just one man,and he,Swann having his own opinions, which were opposed to Obama.
Many white liberals(Greta may not be a liberal-she is a cultist nitwit)take the same patronizing attitude towards non-whites who are successful-“oh look how articulate and bright he(she)is”(for a {insert ethnic word here})-you know what I mean.A white liberal runs into a non white who is far superior intellectually and still refers to such a person in a condescending way.Just look at what positions white liberal Presidents appointed black people to:HUD,Energy(when it was a joke),HEW(later HHS)Commerce, etc.Conservative Republicans appointed black people to critical positions like National Security Advisor(twice),Secretary of State(twice),Supreme Court Justice,Chairman of Joint Chiefs-these are not the Stepin Fechit jobs handed out by the white liberal elitists.Take Don Carcieri-the head of his campaign has been a blck woman. Why the difference?Because conservatives appreciate individual ability and liberals work with templates, but in their heart of hearts, they are bigots. And they don’t realize it-they’d be shocked to hear it.
I’m a liberal who supports Obama and thinks that most of the reporting on Palin has been spot-on, but you’re right, this is ridiculous. Cutting the amount of new money is nothing to get worked up about. Heck, even a funding cut from $5M to 3.9M wouldn’t be that bad.
At some point this is going to backfire on the liberals. I’m very interested to see how Palin fires back tonight.
McCain is a fighter and one who performs better when the attack is on, so we’ll see if he selected someone of the same ilk. If so, then I think Palin will cause quite a bit of problems for Obama/Biden.
Last week, the mainstream media talked about how Joe Biden lost his first wife in a car accident and bravely moved forward as a single parent. They described Biden’s long work days in DC and talked glowingly about how he could was also a parent.
This week, the press is asking how Sarah Palin will be able to handle her duties as a working mother and VP. They have come right out and suggested that she is a bad mother.
The media’s treatment of Sarah Palin is pathetic.
Sadly, The “so called left wing hate machine” is something you have invented in order to compensate for your insecurities. If you could see clearly, you would notice that the people on the other side of your thinking do not “hate Sarah Palin” they merely realize that she is the wrong choice for the Vice President of this country.
Subject: $5M to $3.9 CUT for Trouble Youth
The real question is with a large State surplus , why did Gov.Palin see a need to cut the state legislature funding of $5M to $3.9M ?

Micheal,
I know what you mean, I asked my boss for a 5% raise and only received a 3% raise. How could this heartless individual cut my salary like that.
Michael. Did you read Andrew’s post. The $3.9m in funding authorized by Gov Palin was a tripling of their budget from the prior year.
Most people wouldn’t call that a reduction.
… that should be: a tripling of their state funding from the prior year.
Sarah Palin probably was honest in her description of herself as a pitbull with lipstick. Why would anyone want a pretty pitbull as vice president or holding any other Office outside Alaska?
He begins with this: I’ve heard it from those who’ve been through it a good deal of times ‘It sounds like the roar associated with a train.’ Finally, I got my confirmation. Yes, indeed it does. And here’s what it was like around 5 p.m. ET Tuesday. Sharp was inside his apartment: Sirens had started to sound. I turned on TV, but the signal was disrupted. That’s while the wind began to discover. Then it roared. I moved myself into my bathroom as I heard a clanging noise, like someone taking a large metal spoon onto a stock pot. The power then flickered. Once it went off. Then, back on. Off for good. I did what one was supposed to accomplish, I hunkered into my bath tub with my hands above me head curled into a fetal position.
