Absolut Aztlan?

So the makers of Absolut vodka are advertising in Mexico with the statement that, “In an Absolut World,” the Southwestern United States would be the territory of our neighbors to the south. One might call it immanentizing the endgame.
Well, my choice of vodkas just became easier by the subtraction of one.

Take it easy Justin. It’s called truth in advertising.

“truth in advertising”
Yes, it is absolutely true that a goal of the extremist organization LaRaza is to redraw the map accordingly. And it is also true that Hillary Clinton took into her campaign as a senior advisor a former president of the National Council of La Raza, Raul Yzaguirre.
Now the question is, does Hillary “truly” want to give away part of the country that she wants to be president of? Or was her bringing in Mr. Yzaguirre just a more extreme form of pandering?

Cinco de Mayo is just a marketing idea brought to you by liquor companies trying to exploit the Hispanic demographic.
Absolut = Yanqui peegs.

“Absolut = Yanqui peegs.”
Once again, Americans are being falsely maligned. Absolut is Swedish through and through.
(… Until this summer, that is, when the sale of Absolut to Pernod Ricard SA is complete. Yes, that Pernod.)

Mecha/Voz de Aztlan has the most hate-filled website you could imagine-the statements from their leadership is as bad as anything from the KKK-they are particularly anti-semitic-I am sure Rabbi Flam would not enjoy reading what they have to say.
Boycott Absolut!!

It wasn’t so much of a purchase as a mugging. Ever hear of the Mexican-American War?
Monique,
You froth at the mouth and ignore the facts. Your intransigent inanities are not worth comment.

Joe,
It’s been years, but I’m pretty sure that’s the Web site on which I found celebration of one of the early 9/11-related beheaded-Westerner videos, with content proudly displayed as evidence of the threat that America faces if it doesn’t capitulate to demands.
It’s not a stretch to compare this ad to a hypothetical one running in the Middle East with a map of the region absent Israel.
My only question is if it makes a moral difference whether such Westerners as the Absolut marketing team think they’re merely peddling a kitschy cultural thing or are actively supporting the revolutionaries.

It’s amusing what the right wing crowd gets upset about. Do you remember the fuss over French fries? The same crowd was not in any mood to impose any sanctions against the South Africans in the 80’s although the brutality of minority rule was becoming more evident daily. Boycotts of that government were castigated by the Reagan right wing as either ineffective or as helpful to the ANC communists. Again this had to do with the brutal suppression of human rights. Now Justin is prepared to change his beverage of choice to punish a map maker. I think I need a stiff drink. Absolutely.

Justin-google “Voz de Aztlan Mecha Ramona Ripston ACLU Jewess”-you’ll see some very nice language there-in this case however,it is amusingly ironic who it’s directed at-to be honest the VdA/Mecha group is about as significant in the Hispanic community as the International Socialist Organization is in Rhode Island-as far as Vodka-try Wyborowa if you can find it-it used to be imported from Poland but I haven’t seen it in a few years-distilled from rye and inexpensive, but it doesn’t taste like Everclear ,which many more expensive vodkas do

Lefty-do you seriously think that we should give back what we won in the Mexican War?That was in 1848.How about giving Alaska back to Russia?I’m sure the ever environmentally friendly regime there wouldn’t think to drill for oil in Anwar.I don’t think the United States has to apologize for much compared to the European countries which held indigineous populations in colonial occupation for decade upon decade for their own enrichment. The only territories we had were those thrust upon us as a result of the Spanish-American War and we never were comfortable with the situation. We were very benign occupiers in those few areas-including the Pacific Trust Territories we administered after WW2-there was no revolt anywhere except the Philippines, and the people we fought there, the Moros, are still in revolt against the Philippine Republic which has been self-governing since the thirties and independent since 1945.

I can’t help but wonder, Phil, whether your displayed inability to make significant distinctions has a causative effect on your apparent ideology.
Let’s start with this one: boycotting a nation (whatever that would mean, I was kinda young in the early ’80s) versus boycotting a specific product.
For the record, I rarely drink vodka, although when I have, I’ve been more likely than not to choose Absolut simply from name recognition. More of a beer guy, although I’m finding that workaholism has been seriously affecting my interest in drinking at all.

Vive la France! They elected a modelizer president. The media and moral scolds would never allow that to happen in America.

Yeah, the only problem with Sarkozy is that he fell for Al Gore’s spiel.

The irony…Sarkozy was Bush’s boy.
What is it about French elections? Both candidates turfed their spouses right afterward. In America, you make the swap for the trophy wife BEFORE you run.
