The President-Elect Is Like a Box of Chocolates
Andrew McCarthy has an excellent piece up on NRO noting the ambiguity of which Barack Obama will actually emerge as president and leaving home that it will be the centrist one painted in the candidate’s rhetoric. McCarthy also points toward the shadow that ought to be feared:
Alinsky, too, rejected ideological dogmatism. He taught that the successful radical is the wolf in sheep’s clothing: burrowing into the institutions of Western capitalism, altering their character from within, seducing the society with a high-minded summons to “social justice,” “participatory democracy,” and, yes, “change.” Is Obama following this stealthy roadmap? If that is his intention, it’s hard to imagine how he could have done so more perfectly.
The questions about Barack Obama will soon be answered. His selection of Rahm Emanuel may give some indication of where Obama intends to head.
Emanuel, you may recall, was the intensely partisan head of the DCCC that recruited moderate Democrats to run in “red-state” areas. These freshman moderates provided the Democrats with the majority that allowed more senior Congressional liberals to take control of committee chairmanships.
Reading all of the comments, what ifs, I think he will do this and I think he will do that is interesting and I think he will act like this and that!
The Honolulu Star Bulletin had a very interesting article yesterday written by Susan Essoyan; “Analysis: What Obama’s Win Means to Hawaii. Diversity in isles molded message”
In it she says “Chicago gave Obama his political roots, but his personal style and philosophy spring more from these islands. His wife, Michelle, has often said that to understand Obama you have to understand Hawaii.”
The above statement is oh so true for all you mainlanders living in the lower 48 that have never visited the 50th state. It’s funny, most all of you are seeing an African-American but not seeing the Hawaii conceived, born and raised person.

Stupid me, I was just judging him based on his voting record….
…He has a voting record? Since when??
Tchaah, EMT. He voted “present” 130 times while in the Illinois legislature.
Guess that showed you …
Monique,
Now that you brought up voting records; “He voted “present” 130 times while in the Illinois legislature.”
I’ll have to take a look at both Obama and McCain records. Thanks for insight!
According to document records, Obama did not vote in the Senate on 137 measures in 2008 during his cross country and national campaign for the U.S.A. Presidency.
Now that you’ve brought up the subject matter I’ll have to look at McCain’s record for 2008 and when in Arizona.
Thanks Monique for the heads up!
