From Blogger to Notable

Congratulations to Matt Jerzyk for his inclusion as one of eight notable people of 2008 by the Providence Journal — or as Matt sardonically calls it, the Belojo — which puts him in company with a U.S. Senator, the RI Supreme Court Chief Justice, a big-city police chief, and an Olympic athlete, among others. Honestly, I didn’t immediately identify Matt in his picture; he’s undergone quite a transformation from the man I met some four or five years ago.
I note, by the by, that judging from the statistics that he’s been offering for RI Future in recent media coverage, we’re just about even in readership, nowadays. When last I took a moment to compare, back in May 2007, RI Future had us by about two-and-a-half times.

Any chance Anchor Rising will adopt a format more like the soapblox one used by RIFuture? You have the opportunity to develop a conservative community in RI, much like RIFuture has done for the progressives.

We’re thinking along those lines, in some regards. One of the bigger hang-ups is a reluctance to blur the anonymity line that we’ve maintained between contributors and comments. Another problem — very much emblematic of the right’s difficulties in general — is that none of us have jobs allowing continual oversight.
Of course, if I’m able to figure out some way to make a full-time job of AR, you’re very likely to see a move in that direction.

Gee, no mention of the $ 2.9 million Reed took in that article. Why am I surprised?

“Any chance Anchor Rising will adopt a format more like the soapblox one used by RIFuture?”
What is that? How does it work? Would commenters have to register?

If it takes making people register,so what?I have enjoyed taking the argument to the other side on RIF-I get whacked by some of the leftists there, but I haven’t been banned, because with a few exceptions I have tried to keep the arguments from becoming personal. Now that there is a change at the helm there, things may(or not)be different.
AR has more potential for a conservative point of view being widely disseminated in RI than any other site.

Please put “progressives” in quotes. William Jennings Bryan was a progressive. Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive.
The 21st century Communists who hijacked that term should not be humoured. Don’t forget that the Stlinist butchers who ran the Spanish government until they were thrown out in 1936 acheived a measure of worldwide support by labeling their Killing Field state “Free Spain”.

Mikethere were no good guys in the Spanish Civil War-the communists and the fascists used it as a proxy battleground and tactical laboratory.
As 1941 proved, the communists were slow learners, but their willingness to take enormous casualties gave them catch up time.

The Projo is really insane.Matt Jerzyk is positively head and shoulders above a piece of s*** charlatan like Dean Esserman-and why is Mr.Genao there?Because he made a mountain out of a molehill? He made himself part of a feeding frenzy that was designed to serve the nefarious purposes of the ACLU and Progreso Latino.Jack Reed?Money-grubbing little creep getting his payoff from the banking industry while letting them rape the public under his “oversight”.I guess the refugee advocate is okay. It’s been an interesting few weeks. The Clintonistas are baaaack!!

Justin –
Thank you for the note.
And congratulations to AR as well for building a reputable blog on the right as well.
It’s not easy having a life and a job and a family and trying to develop a blog all at the same time and you all have continued to grow and grow.
Political differences aside, job well done.
And, for what it’s worth, I think the community diary system – after working out some initial kinks – was worth the transition in that it really increased the number of new writers on our site.

I have to agree with Joe. Matt has done a good job advancing local blogging, regardless of his ideology. To compare him to Dean Esserman is terribly insulting. Matt was right about one thing… the Projo is more a BeloJo than a real local paper anymore. Any chance Crowley might want to buy that with his NEA money, too? 😉
