Oh, It Was a Joke
Len Lardaro was on Dan Yorke’s show early this afternoon to talk about the op-ed that I mentioned this morning, and he declared that his suggestion of raising the state’s sales tax to 8% was more or less a joke to get a rise out of people. Frankly, I don’t know Professor Lardaro, but my BS detector was screaming.
Some listeners called in and informed Dan that Lardaro had also been on Buddy Cianci’s show and hadn’t said anything about a public put on.
Hey professor, what was that zipping down I-95 south from Kingston today? Oh, your credibility? Yep, that’s what it was. Gone.
Raising the sales tax is a “joke”-that is for sure.
But so is state paid education in 78 languages, “hardship waivers” that guarantee lifetime welfare benefits, illegal aliens getting free apartments (utilities included),lifetime pensions with COLA’s and health insurance at 41, etc., etc.
PS-The sales tax in George Jefferson land-“progressive” Chicago is 10.25%.

I heard Lardaro on Yorke also and he sounded like a little kid who got caught smacking his little brother only to explain to his mother that they were just ‘play fighting’.
What an idiot! And somewhere along the way, he claimed he was going to write another op-ed to explain that the first op-ed was just a joke! A joke!?!
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is a prime example of why we need talk radio and conservative bloggers.
So many idiots, so little time.
I don’t think her originally meant it as a joke. If it was a joke, no one’s laughing. I think he just got a lot of heat and backed off. He could at least keep his story consistent. He basically wimped out, and lost a ton of credibility in the process.
The premise of the reason for the increase was amusing at best — “earmark it for higher education” — yeah, just like the state lottery, right? Please.
Why not raise it to 20%? Oh yeah, peoples’ buying behaviors change based on incentives and disincentives. That would just mean a lot more business for places like Seekonk, MA and zero money for Rhode Island’s black hole.
