Vlog #7: Draft So-and-So

Whether it’s an off-season taste or the initiation of the 2010 election season on Anchor Rising time will tell, but my vlog this week concerns the practice of “drafting” candidates for office; specifically for governor:

A black shirt while sitting in a black chair? You look like just a floating head (Cheshire cat). 🙂

Being somewhat familiar with the movement to “Draft” Laffey, I would only say that I do not think that it is adulation that Laffey is seeking. I think it is as simple as trying to guage whether there is enough interest, both within and without the GOP, for his possible candidacy in 2010, so as not to waste the effort and expense.
Running for governor is a significant life and monetary commitment to make, so perhaps possibly doing so and testing the waters isn’t a bad idea.
Frankly, a person of Laffey’s talent can be doing a lot of things than running to steer the Titanic. Would he be charging into battle alone or with an army behind him? Finding that out first seems to be rational to me.
PS There is no evidence that Laffey himself is behind the so-called “Draft Laffey” movement, although many of those at the local level who have supported him in the past seem to be engaged in it.

“so perhaps possibly doing so and testing the waters isn’t a bad idea”
Yes it is. This state needs a Democrat in the Governor’s Office before the Republican party is going to get anything going at all. As long as the Bill Lynchs of this state have a Republican governor whipping boy, they stay above the fray. But what I want is whoever they want as their governor. Then, us Republicans can only end up with one of two results, both good:
1. Either they completely screw it up worse and then have no one to blame and finally people wake up, or
2. They do actually improve the situation
I said the same thing about Obama, so I’m thinking it’s going to be #1.
So for the next election cycle, I’ll be listening to who Bill Lynch and Bill Murphy and TPW want for their governor and that’s who I’ll support. Laffey stay home, we might be ready for you in 2014.

Will,
Your explanation doesn’t address the distinction I’m making. It’s certainly advisable for a potential candidate to investigate native support. It’s quite another thing for potential supporters to petition a candidate to leap into their arms.

By 2014 Rhode Island may be a county in Connecticut or Mass. That’s where we’re headed.
This is not one of those typical scenario’s where a candidate and his die-hard supporters work behind the scenes to create a draft movement. If a movement manifests itself at all, it will come about when enough people start to realize how much their and their children’s futures have been all but destroyed by the crooks they continue to return to Smith Hill.
Right now, if Laffey is getting any encouragement to run, I’ll bet he’s getting it mostly from the Caprio, Lynch, the GA leadership, and yes, the Governor himself through their phoney actions, shameful inaction and fraudulent deception.
I can’t see the man who couldn’t let Cranston go to ruin, stand by as Rhode Island is destroyed. But the people of Cranston were ready, they overflowed rooms and packed auditoriums and eventually rallied around a leader who spoke for them – who was looking out for them.
I pray that in the months ahead the people of Rhode Island will finally wake up and be ready to take down the powers that be. That’s how we can, not only get Laffey to run. That’s how we can be sure that he will win.

justin,
Do you think Laffey can get off of his medications enough to make a serious run at a statewide office? Could he be seeing Limbaugh’s pharmacists?

OTL-
That’s offensive and borderline libelous. You’re accusing Laffey of being a criminal? A pill-popper? That’s even over the line for you. Is there any evidence of Laffey having drug problems? I’ve never seen any.
That deserves a retraction.

I’m with George on this one.
I think it’s a case of Laffey’s core group of supporters trying to see what level of support is out there and that they are trying to create an environment where he feels comfortable running. Ultimately, he’s the one who’d be taking the leap, so he needs to decide of it’s worth it.
OTL, I’d be very careful if I were you.

Ze old man speak out of fear. Anybody who know Laffey just a leetle bit know he never smoke, never drink, never take drug. He in tip top shape, state swimming champion, Oakland Beech push-up champion. Probably give Zohan and Phantom together good fight.
Old man scared cuz Laffey never lie, never hide truth. Old man and lefty commies no want people to know truth. Old man scared. Old man Governor scared too.

Patrick, Will and The Zohan,
Thanks for partaking in my little experiment in politcal sensitivities.
Your use of the words “offensive amd libelous” never came up when some of your political fellow travellers were writing about “Death Panels” and “Pulling the Plug on Grandma”.
You have outed yourselves.
