Re: Socialists to Protest Beck
Desperately trying to avoid several household projects I should be working on, I decided to see if anything interesting would happen associated with the protest of Glenn Beck’s book signing at Borders Bookstore in Providence. Here’s a quick photosummary.
The world’s mellowest angry mob, inside of the store, about a half-hour or so before Glenn Beck’s arrival (also before I figured out that I should be using the “incandescent” rather than the “flourescent” setting on my camera phone when inside of the store)…
The protesters outside, also about a half-hour or so before Glenn Beck’s arrival…
The crowd inside, a few minutes after Beck’s arrival…
The protesters outside, a few minutes after Beck’s arrival…
After all the chest pounding on RIF it seemed like the “revolution” was washed out by rain.
Hmmm?
Oh the humanity!
Channel 12 mentioned that 1200 people were in line to get their books signed.
there was no coverage of the brewpub revolutionaries-what were there,12?
I wouldn’t stand in line like that to get a book signed unless it was Cormac McCarthy, and he doesn’t sign books.
I got a few books signed by tess gerritsen,a mystery/thriller who used to be a doctor-no long lines, and she takes a lot of time with each person-a very interesting lady.
There were protesters? I had no idea!
I was so happy that I went to this–it was wonderful to be surrounded by like-minded people and everyone was courteous and gracious to a fault. And Mr. Beck was wonderful–the only thing that concerned me was that I thought he should have had MORE security.
God Bless You Mr. Beck!
Andrew, thanks so much for these pics. The only thing funnier than this protest was the ProJo’s coverage of it. lol You will laugh out loud at the “journalism”.
Oh, they were protesters, I thought they were pan-handlers. My bad.
Tim,
Thanx for the thanx, and for pointing the Projo story out.
RI Tea Party members should take note: If you can get 14 people to stand outside of somebody else’s event for about an hour, you become eligible for a headline and a substantial portion of the newspaper coverage that comes out the next day.
I completely concur about the Projo’s coverage: “Protesters greet Beck” are in big bold letters,
Then you read into the story and it says that Beck was greeted by “hundreds of supporters,” all the while all the other news outlets put the actual number at about 1200 supporters. There were 14 protesters there briefly and they got the headline. I will be so happy the day the Projo shutters its doors.
Pictures really do say a thousand words! I guess the pursuit of dry and toasty socks outweighed the pursuit of revolution.
Even though the wait was long and hot, it was worth it. The people in line were terrific. We talked about tea parties, 9-12 project, the corruption in our nation, and especially our state.
The folks in our area are fed up with the usual cast of characters, and intent on voting them out. This was also true of the MA contingent in the next line over. We consoled each other over the fact we have such nitwits representing us, as Barney Frank and Patrick Kennedy. Folks complained about the form letters from Reed, Whitehouse, and other reps and senators from MA and CT that these folks are so out of touch with their constituents. It seems that the folks that have voted in the past for these guys are repenting, and will sin no more.
This was predictable. After all, the group organizing this had “socialist” in its name. Sounds pretty stupid…unless it’s a conservative astroturf group.
If there was much of an opposition presence, the 21st-century Elmer Gantry could strut around squawking “Hey – look at the Socialists!” With some validity.
This capitalist figures, why give him the satisfaction?
Rhody-astroturf group? You know better because you post on RIF and this was promoted there by Shaun Joseph and Pat Crowley-are they Republican operatives?
They probably saw the crowd and said the hell with it.They apparently weren’t allowed in-there are still some private property rights left for the time being.
Crowley and these clowns are legends in their own minds.
I doubt Beck showed the pictures last night. And the owners are smart enough businessmen not to keep two people out of the joint for political reasons. Hell, I’m not cutting up my Borders card – eventually, they’ll host a book signing that will piss off the right even worse.
BTW, did you read the ProJo op-ed yesterday from the Dallas columnist who ripped Beck from a conservative perspective?
Rhody-the owners are also smart enough to keep out ANY group that might cause a disturbance in a crowd. They are thinking liabilioty, not politics, period.
The ISO is the same group of sh*theads who tried to block prisoner transport vans at ICE HQ.
I like this site very much so much excellent information. Thank you, very much.
I’d personally also like to convey that most individuals who find themselves devoid of health insurance are normally students, self-employed and people who are laid-off. More than half on the uninsured are really under the age of Thirty-five. They do not sense they are wanting health insurance because they are young plus healthy. Its income is generally spent on property, food, and entertainment. Many people that do go to work either whole or not professional are not given insurance via their jobs so they proceed without with the rising cost of health insurance in the country. Thanks for the strategies you reveal through this web site.
