Making America Just Another (Subordinate) Country
Amid political battles locally and race scandals nationally, let’s not lose sight of the newly immune global-government police force operating within the United States. A recent column by Andrew McCarthy is must-reading on the topic, as he explains why the Obama administration is disinclined to explain why the president would quietly remove protections of the American people against the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol):
Here’s how the game works. International-law professors, jurists, and bureaucrats announce some piety that they think everyone should follow (e.g., the death penalty is an unconscionable human-rights violation). Once enough of them have followed it for long enough (in recent years, “long enough” seems to have become “ten minutes” . . . or the time it takes to announce these new international standards), the piety is deemed — at least by transnationalists — to be universally binding. In their view, it thus becomes the obligation of every nation to fall into line, changing their laws to whatever extent is necessary to do so. That is, the sensibilities of the “international community” (i.e., the elites of the global Left) void the democratic self-determinism of the American people. …
This is surely another reckless gesture designed to eviscerate America’s special status and self-determinism — to make us just one of 192 other countries, no better, no different, no superpower. The president knows that Americans don’t share his view of America, which is a big reason behind his tumbling approval ratings. Saying out loud that we need to immunize Interpol — to put it above the U.S. Constitution — in order to be more like Kenya, Thailand, Zimbabwe, etc., would not go over well. That would bode ill for the administration’s agenda to subjugate the U.S. to such transnationalist schemes as the Law of the Sea Treaty and the International Criminal Court. Better to say nothing.
In the first place, America is a hemisphere, not a country. Check the name plate at the U.N. Check the great Seal of the country. Check it’s official name. Check its abbreviation, U.S.A, often shortened to U.S.
I have friends in Guatemala, Mexico, and other parts of South America who bristle at what they term, “linguistic imperialism”.
One more question, if you don’t like Interpol immunity from U.S. law, what do you think of Blackwater’s (Xe) immunity from Iraqi law?

P.S. — Are you saying that Interpol is aligned of an invading army routing out terrorists in our midst?
Not that it matters, I am sure everyone knows that I do not favor a subordinate America.
For all of that, isn’t Interpol an information pool? Do interpol officals have arrest powers?
If globilization is the goal, will we still be allowed to “celebrate diversity”?

The song you sing is just that, a song. I can see you in star-spangled tights and red, white and blue bunting as you do a soft-shoe while mouthing the lyrics. Check out the national anthem and you’ll find no reference confusing a hemisphere with a country. Really, Justin, I expected more from you than another song and dance.

As you probably already know, after Truman finished the job of dismantling the British Imperial Preference Ssytem and thereby shifted the financial center of power from London to New York, the U.N., formed in San Francisco, moved its headquarters to New York. It was a logical decision as to locale. What’s that have to do with the confusion of a hemisphere with a country?

Ah yes, Guatemala, Mexico and many others brimming with potential “new Americans”. Instead of “bristling” they should try getting their act together. Maybe they could start farms and “raise hackles”. Directly, or indirectly, those countries owe their very existence to “America” and it’s Monroe Doctrine.
Without us,it is very likely Mexico would have remained a Hapsburg Dynasty.
Doubtless, OTL will sing the praises of Carlotta of Mexico, a/k/a Charlotte of Belgium.

I’m afraid I have to agree, at least in principle. I suppose our positioning of Blackwater is necessitated by our tiny army (once again Brazil has a larger army than we do). The army is too small to provide for security requirements. Whether they were used in operations that required “plausible deniability”, I’m not certain. Most of the Blackwater people are former special forces people gone private.
Whatever the situation, I think the MSM has once again kept it quiet. When a Blackwater employee was killed, the MSM would report it as the death of an American “contractor”. I think most people imagined a guy over there building bridges, or clearing roads. I know that I did for a while.

Actually, America is not a hemisphere, it is a part of the Western Hemisphere. Happily we are in the same hemisphere as most of the British Isles, most of the Iberian peninsula and a large portion of Africa (this seems to be the most contentious portion of Africa).
What America might be is a continent, that would be North America. That would include Canada and Mexico. I have heard of Mexicans complaining about “America”, I have never heard that from a Canadian.
My idea of “diversity” is dating Canadians.

You are quite right America is a continent, part of a hemisphere. It does not change the fact that America is not a country. Be patriotic, use the proper name.
The Monroe Doctrine has never been recognized under international law, any more than Hitler’s “Lebensraum” was. The Monroe Doctrine has been applied, not necessarily to free other Americans from tyranny, but to insure U.S. hegemony over the region. Nothing altruistic about it.

Are you equally fastidious about not referring to the United Kingdom as “England”? Or the old Union of Soviet Socialist Republics as “Russia”?

To clarify, if clarification is within your grasp; I don’t hate America. It’s a terrific continent, very varied from Alaskan tundra, through the Canadian Rockies, Midwest plains, Southwest desserts, Central American jungles, Brazilian rain forests, Argentine Pampas down to the Straits of Magellan.
I’ve been quite aware of separatist movements in Ireland (26+6=1), Scotland and Wales for years.
I’m almost certain that Anglo-U.S. world dominance is coming to an end. There seems to be an inevitable force of history which has been moving the world power center Eastward from Germany to England to the United States, and is impelling itself towards the Orient. I don’t especially wish for it to happen, I am merely an observer of the process.
I don’t have any problem living in a country that is simply another player on the world stage.
