This is stunning, and it ought to be thrown in the faces of those North Easterners who point their sanctimonious, oh-so-tolerant fingers at Arizona. Swaths of land within our borders are being closed to Americans because the invasion of illegal-immigrant smugglers, human traffickers, and drug runners from Mexico has simply made them too dangerous.
Perhaps Rhode Island should send Senate President Teresa Paiva-Weed and Speaker of the House Gordon Fox there on a fact-finding mission.
This is precisely what many of our local “advocates”like Shana Kurland want.Open borders and internationalist “one world” government.
I single out Shana Kurland specifically because she testified at the RI State Senate that we had no right to establish borders.A person’s own words are the best evidence.
She has many fellow travellers like Matt Jerzyk,Pat Crowley,Peter Alinsky-oops-Asen,Roberto Gonzales, Shaun Jospeh,Miguel Luna,and others,all of whom seem to share her opinion to one degree or another.Not all of them are so openly against the existence of the US as a sovereign state as she is.
We even have one of the open borders advocates running for US Congress-David Segal.
We can’t forget Steven Brown,but that creep is generally against ANYTHING that is traditionally American.He makes pond scum seem high class.
A “fact finding” group of these radicals just returned from Arizona and are going to report their “findings” at Przym,according to Senor Jerzyk(in his dreams)-I can only imagine the lies that will be disseminated there.
FWIW a few years ago I wrote about Przym and who was supporting it-info gleaned from their own website.A short time later the site was changed and the support groups(extreme leftists,some with 60’s roots)were expunged from public view.
I felt that the young people in Przym were being exploited by professional radicals.What’s new about that?

Europe has now proven itself willing to elect openly anti-immigrant (racist in progressivespeak) parties to power while the US has 2 open border parties.
A welfare state cannot and will not survive long when anyone from the Third World can sneak in, achieve de facto legalization by having a baby and secure free education and a whole smorgosboard of other First World welfare benefits.

Tommy, I know you’re building momentum with your posts, but hang on right there. No human anywhere is “illegal”. Their actions can definitely be illegal, but a human cannot.
Just helping you out for when you rant against some of these people, for they will jump on that point and derail the rest of your stance.

For those of you who do not know what is going on, and would rather not read and get spun up by sensationalized reporting, The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has closed a very small portion of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge south of the Garcia Road to public use. This area is about 3,500 acres in size and directly adjacent to the Mexico USA boarder and is Federal Government Wildlife Refuge land so local Arizona county sheriffs and law enforcement would have no jurisdiction as erroneously implied.
There have been increased numbers of violence against US Wildlife officers and against migrants and with the increased surveillance now in place the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service does not want innocent citizens and refuge visitors caught in the middle and violently exploited. There has been violence on both sides of the boarder in this area.
Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge is 118,000 acres in size contrary as reported by Justin and “First Things” the whole Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge has not been closed and this is a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service closure not an Obama closure!
For your information the Rhode Island Army National Guard did their two week summer drill along the Arizona/Mexico border rotating with other National Guard units.

Ken-there is no spin involved in describing conditions along the Arizona border.I have friends from the INS days who were assigned there and they tell me they’ve never seen anything remotely this bad.I can’t imagine they’d lie to me about it-to what purpose?

The drug cartels have thus far generally kept the kidnapping/murder activity within their own milieu,but that won’t last much longer.
Thr president has abdicated his responsibility for border security because he wants to hold the country hostage for another amnesty-then he complains when Arizona acts to maintain some sanity.He,Holder,and Napolitano should all be out of a job.2012 can’t be here soon enough.Maybe he’ll be rendered harmless in the 2010 election.

Indeed, Joe, the president and certain members of Congress, including all of the Rhode Island delegation, have notably abdicated their responsibility to maintain the sovereignty and security of this country. It’s only a matter of time, by the way, before one of the many citizens or legal immigrants brutalized on the border as a result of this non-action files a lawsuit for damages against the president and those members of Congress.
Yes, definitely, Paiva-Weed, Fox, our delegation and anyone who supports amnesty and open borders out of compassion should be sent to the center of the action on a fact-finding mission to see exactly how much “compassion” their terribly misguided policy has wrought.

What social democracy in Europe is doing has very little effect on the second law of thermodynamics. You appear to be making the “stick out your tongue and blow a raspberry” approach politics. Don’t count me in that game.
If you want to believe in infinite growth, go right ahead. I will remind you that there is no such thing as a perpetual motion machine.
To sum for you: We are at the end of empire. We’ll go on, but the world is no longer our oyster – our oyster is currently covered with petroleum down in the Gulf.

My take on ozymandias is that in the great timeless scheme of things we are just little specks of dust,no matter how grandiose we think we are. That said,I,like you live in the world we can encompass-the here and now.I may have missed your point.I agree we may have to accept declining influence in the world.That’s just reality-and maybe it’s bettr if we’re not stretched too thin with committments around the world. That doesn’t mean we can’t preserve our sovereignity and our borders. I don’t believe the US ever sought an overseas empire in the normal sense like the European countries because we were blessed with natural resources;abundant farmland;and the ability to grow economically. I agree that perpetual growth is not possible-not really healthy either,because what grows has to be maintained. China is growing in world influence,but China without the dictatorial form of government it has cannot remain a cohesive nation-numerous spoken languages;significantly different cultures;a large Muslim separatist region;and historical Balkanization(recall the warlord eras they went through?)-I mean people from Hong Kong and Beijing can’t even converse. A lesson to us to avoid becoming a nation with two languages(or more)because the “mosaic” of cultures so often spoken of glowingly by fools is in fact a recipe for a Yugoslavia and you know how that turned out. The single greatest defeat we’ve suffered hasn’t been inflicted by an enemy abroad.It was the exile of American fabrication industry to foreign countries-outsourcing.Now it’s happened to tech jobs. I’m rambling on,but I think the US can remain a strong country if we maintain control of our borders and scale back military committments in places where they are not essential,like the Sinai,the Korean peninsula,Macedonia/Bosnia/Germany,Japan,etc. We also need to revisit atomic energy.Disposal of waste is doable. When it was easy to cross the border, we had none of this. Greater enforcement has made things more dangerous indeed, and it has been a waste of a lot of money.
