Reminders of What They Did
The Washington Examiner offers a useful reminder of some of the actions of ObamaCare:
Six months ago, President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rammed Obamacare down the throats of an unwilling American public. Half a year removed from the unprecedented legislative chicanery and backroom dealing that characterized the bill’s passage, we know much more about the bill than we did then.
Costs will go up; abortions will be funded; consumers will lose the coverage that they like; doctors will be harmed, economically; jobs will be lost; the government will grow and become more invasive. The slight correction may be necessary that a lot of us “knew” these things about the bill inasmuch as we expected them to be included.
Let’s not forget to include the critical points that rationing will occur at a much higher rate than what Americans experience now, particularly for seniors, and that medical and biotechnological innovation will stall dramatically.
It’s not just the fact that Republicans are now posing as staunch DEFENDERS of Medicare a program they have HATED ever since the days when Ronald Reagan warned that Medicare would DESTROY America’s freedom. Nor is it even the fact that, as House speaker, Gingrich personally tried to ram through deep cuts in Medicare — and, in 1995, went so far as to shut down the federal government in an attempt to bully Bill Clinton into accepting those cuts.
After all, you could explain this about-face by supposing that Republicans have had a change of heart, that they have finally realized just how much good Medicare does ??????????? OR NOT
