Let Them Drink Pina Colatas
The article’s about Governor Carcieri’s failure to nominate a candidate to replace Child Advocate Jametta Alston, but this is the line that stands out:
“I don’t expect we’ll be back,” [Senate President Teresa Paiva-Weed (D., Newport) said. “I really want to enjoy the summer.”
One wonders if that was the impetus for the mysterious feeling of House Speaker Gordon Fox (D., Providence) that the legislation had to come to an abrupt ending, this year.
It’s actually very simple, and you won’t like the answer…
A fried of mine who was once a State Rep explained to me that once the summer begins, the heat in the committee rooms and on the House and Senate floors becomes very unpleasant. Considering the physical condition of the average politician (slightly portly, usually a bit past their prime) and what they have to wear (suit and tie), it becomes a priority to end the session as soon as the heat starts to penetrate the State House walls. Once you can’t get relief by opening the windows, the pressure is on.
This alone should make Rhode Islanders hope and pray that significant ‘climate change’ isn’t in the cards for the coming decades.
You mean global warming will keep the General Assembly off Smith Hill? Hooray for hydrocarbons!
No Casino vote????? sniffle sniffle
Apparently the Senate President does NOT want to hear from constituents and has blocked e-mails to ALL General Assembly members that she feels are inappropriate.
Witness the following whcih was posted ob Craig’s List RU under Politics:
“Teresa Paiva-Weed,
You insipid little Bitch. How dare you have the temerity to block my e-mails to your colleagues? In case you have forgotten… You work for me, I don’t work for you. If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen (I’m sure that will happen in November).
You are nothing more than an arrogant political elitist that defies the will of the people and applies different rules to us than to yourself, and justifying any means to achieve your ends and agenda. Remember “The AYES Have It”? It was a disgrace. That is not Leadership… It is Dictatorship. You are not doing your job and I have every right to criticize you.”
Perhaps a bit strong but one cannot argue with the truth.
Hopefully there is a young Democrat out there willing to challenge her in a primary race!
Terry and the Pirates have to go!
The GA is sadly wanting. But 8 years, 8 long years of ineptitude and failure by the governor. But you never heard it here. AR is also sadly wanting.
Paiva-Weed…another conservative who the GOP makes a little noise about, but won’t seriously challenge even though she represents the status quo well.
Just wonder how much the Right will support the Republican who’s stepped up to challenge Fox. Now we’ll see how serious people are about challenging the SQ.
David S:
How do you read so frequently and miss so much?
Justin- It is a trick of mine that has allowed me to live in this state for these many years while keeping mental health and laughter and, I guess, while always listening, be able to turn a tin ear to you folks. Have a great summer!
“Paiva-Weed…another conservative…”
Right, right. That’s why she so strongly supported that little e-Verify thing. If only Dan Connors didn’t jump up and kill it before she could stop him.
C’mon Justin. You guys are a think tank right? Where’s the money coming from? Original writing is one thing, and that warrants serious response. But the boilerplate nonsense here?
Justin,
How do you say so much and mean so little?

“No Casino vote????? sniffle sniffle”
Heh. I’d tell you to e-mail the GA to protest, John, but you might turn out to be one of those … er, reprobates that Aldo references whose address has been blocked by the Senate President.
