A Reminder to Boomers That They’re Blowin’ in the Wind
What better outtro could there be to the fortieth anniversary of the Summer of Love than this?
A 24-year-old police officer apparently was unaware of who Dylan is and asked him for identification, Long Branch business administrator Howard Woolley said Friday.
“I don’t think she was familiar with his entire body of work,” Woolley said.
The incident began at 5 p.m. when a resident said a man was wandering around a low-income, predominantly minority neighborhood several blocks from the oceanfront looking at houses.
The police officer drove up to Dylan, who was wearing a blue jacket, and asked him his name. According to Woolley, the following exchange ensued:
“What is your name, sir?” the officer asked.
“Bob Dylan,” Dylan said.
“OK, what are you doing here?” the officer asked.
“I’m on tour,” the singer replied.
It’s nice to see history putting the romanticized era of the Baby Boomers’ youth in perspective. It’ll be nicer, some day, to see the culture recover from their corrosion and the government from their presumptuousness.

As a Baby Boomer I CAN NOT say that I am
offended by this, because
It is just right wing drivel,
It makes no sense

OTL,
Lay off the crack pipe for a minute, would you?
Mike,
You poor deluded ass, unable to tell the difference between a wise crack and a crack pipe, perhaps because your head is stuck up a different crack.

Got to hear Santana’s performance at Woodstock for the first time yesterday morning. Fantastic.
Can’t argue about the corrosive effect of that era, nor about the questionable impact of certain government programs that arose. At the same time, the more shallow part of me enjoys much of the music.
Technically I’m a “Baby Boomer” but have always resented being lumped in, as I don’t feel I have much in common with the quintessential “Boomers,” i.e, the children of the sixties.
I was in grade school in the 1960’s while the “Boomers” were out protesting the war and dropping acid, and “high” on the post “New Frontier” idealism that they were going to change the world and create a new utopia not just on the commune, but on earth (e.g., the “Great Society” and its “War on Poverty”).
I was in high school / college during the 1970’s which I used to call “the great hangover from the sixties.” Gas lines; inflation; Watergate and Jimmy Carter and the growing recognition that government doesn’t work and is not, and never will be, the answer. The Who’s 1971 “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and it’s famous riff “meet the new boss, same as the old boss” proved prescient for the disillusionment that was characteristic of the seventies.
BUT the music in the sixties was much better. The seventies brought with it disco (not to mention the accompanying attire of polyester leisure suits and disco attire). UGH!
The rise of Barack Hussein Soetero Obama and his “Hope” and “Change” movement, largely riding on the backs of the “War” (this time the “war on terror”) seems disturbingly reminiscent of the 1960’s, and I fear will also lead to a period of decline and disillusionment and (as we are now a debtor nation extraordinaire) hyperinflation.
All this sniping about the sixties just comes across as really bitter.

Yeah, it was all so groovy. And if you’re going to San Francisco, don’t forget to put a flower in your hair, otherwise you might end up against the wall m…f…cker. But not to worry, cause one pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you smaller, just go ask Alice whose living on a yellow submarine.
PEACE!
Ahh, I remember it well. I was 21 years old with a newborn son. My wife and I were young hardworking baby boomers who had nearly nothing in common with all the hippies grooving on peace, love, and rock ‘n’ roll. Other than the music is was a complete disaster. It scares the crap out of me that the type of people that planned and attended that disaster are now running (ruining) the country.
As for Bob Dylan, to me the most revealing part of the story is that Mr. Dylan did not scream that he was being profiled, nor did he get upset that the police did not know who he is. I am not a big fan of his music, but I give him kudo’s for handling this situation like an adult, not a haughty academic.
